Browsed around town to see what looked good and we chose here based on their extensive menu. It's got a great location with outdoor seating though we chose to sit inside as it was a bit cool outside. Inside was bright and clean with nice décor. The food was good and the beer selection was adequate. Service started out well but by the end our waitress was missing for a good while which is our only complaint.

We knew ahead of time what to expect in Bar Harbor for restaurants, the ones really touted were overpriced, in our minds, and crowded when we looked at them.

Mind you, we were two visitors from the Caribbean Princess, with 3,100 passengers and there were 3,600 more on the Brilliance of the Seas. 98% of the passengers were on shore excursions from her to there, and weer not crowding the little downtown.

We ambled up the street and came upon Rupununi. What appealed to us was the luncheon special, clam chowder, lobster roll and apple pie, for only $21.99 each, so, we were seated outside, in the shade.

Our waiter was efficient, at times service was a tad slow. Sadly when it came to dessert, guess what! They ran out of blueberry pie. Well, not to worry, he said that more were being baked and would we mind 20 min wait to which we enthusiastically said yes. We were offered other dessert and even free cocktails to make up for the pie, but we waited for the pie!

First, there is a thing called "base" a boxed or bagged floury base mixed with water and boiled to which clams or whatever, are added at the last minute. I can detect, smell, this base before I even order in places that use base. Not so here - no base, just real milk, yes, milk, cream would curdle, diced potatoes and tons of clams in all random size of dice. At home I use any lower fat milk, never cream - interestingly , places that use base often fool by using the word cream as an ingredient.

Second, the lobster roll was large, with random size chunks of lobster served on a lowly - traditionally used, hot dog roll, slathered in butter and toasted. It is rare that the roll comes to you arm from toasting, these did. A simple salad also came with the daily special. Now for that pie--------

Fresh Wild Maine Blueberries were out of season, so I think the ones in that pie were flash frozen. Who cares. The pie, with just the right amount of agar for thickening, filled with those tiny bluettes, sitting inside a soft, delicate pastry crust, with a generous dollop of REAL freshly whipped cram on the side - I had to a glutton and order vanilla ice cream as well.

This was an impromptu lunch and well enjoyed by the two of us.

We went to Rupununi's on our first night in Bar Harbor. It was a bit cool and we had to eat outside because of our Golden Retriever. They said yes they were pet friendly and when we asked to sit inside the plastic liner they have surrounding some of the outside tables they said of course. They also had a heater, but it was not needed.. The plastic kept the cool breeze out. We were pleasantly surprised by this restaurant. My husband had the fish and chips and I had the lobster mac and cheese. Both were served with very good haricot vert. They were prepared with a bit of butter and brown sugar. Very delicious, and very different. The lobster mac and cheese had just the right amount of cheese sauce and the meat of a whole lobster. The topping was crisp and golden. My husband's haddock was fried to perfection and he was very pleased with it. I tasted his fries and they were hot and tasty. I would recommend this restaurant highly.

This cute indoor/outdoor restaurant is mixed in with a sea of shopping opportunities. The hostess staff was accomodating but not in a friendly way. Our waitor was friendly but not overly accomodating. The food came before the water. The food was fine - nothing to brag about but was flavorable. Definately a tourist place.

We asked for a recommendation and this was given by a local. The food was just ok. We sat outside and it was just a beautiful day. The service was pretty slow and it didn't seem very crowded to me. The waiter was pretty full of himself. Kind of patting himself on the back. It wasn't necessary for anyone else to give him any praise. I didn't like that he was telling other customers how they could "break into" the National Park that had just closed because of the shutdown.
