After driving four hours up through Maine we arrived at our Resort/Spa and just knew we didn't want to eat in their upscale but pretty predictable food. They actually recommended Galyn's which was right up the hill across the square. With some trepidation we read the menu and decided "what the heck". Well we were pleasantly surprised by both the attentive staff and the excellent food. I was pretty surprised because Bar Harbor located next to Acadia National Park is a cruise line destination but this restaurant seemed unaffected by the throngs of cruisers meandering through Bar Harbor buying T-shirts and ice cream (in late October?). So kudo's to Galyn's for really exceeding our expectations. We really enjoyed the meal the tourists had already gone back to the boat. We had the restaurant almost to our selves and this enhanced the experience. So you never can tell, sometimes the old hangout is really the best deal in town. It was for us. Don't know if they close for the season, but late October things start to shut down in Bar Harbor after the cruise lines leave. Try this restaurant some late evening for an unexpected treat.
