“Unusual and fun way to work off those lobster rolls!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed October 12, 2013

At low tide this strip of land between Bar Harbor and Bar Island appears. It is all small to mid-size pebbles so good walking shoes are a must. If someone doesn't tell you where it is at you will probably miss it. I have been to Bar Harbor several times and this was the first time I knew about it. While you can drive out I think it would be hard on your tires and there is no place to park on the other side so you would drive partway and turn around.

“Must see, but you need some time to see the tide change”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed October 10, 2013

Very cool! We didn't have enough time, but if you had enough time, it would be a great way to see the tide change. The land bridge emerges, quite quickly. Too bad, we didn't get a chance to get on Bar Island, but in any case, it was a great to see it for a little while! You can see it from Cadillac Mountain as well when the water recedes.

“A neat way to spend an hour or so”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed October 5, 2013

At low tide you can walk on the sandbar out to bar island. It's a unique experience. There is a trail you can walk once you are there. Be sure to head back before the tide begins to come back in or you'll be stranded. No parking on the sand bar! You can access the sandbar from Bridge Street in downtown Bar Harbor.

“Fun activity”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed October 5, 2013

What a neat idea! When the tide goes out, a walkway appears to head over to Bar Island that can be seen across Frenchman's Bay. You don't see that excursion everywhere you travel! As we walked across, we saw snails, mollusks, shells, and all sorts of underwater creatures. It doesn't take long to do and is a nice walk, especially on a cool, fall, sunny day!

“Nice walk”

It was a lovely walk late afternoon and
The view from the summit of Bar Island was worth the short walk.
