“Afternoon time well spent”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed February 3, 2013

This outing made for a nice later afternoon adventure. We walked across the land bridge and hiked up to the top to see the views of Bar Harbor. There are no facilies, bring with you whatever you may need.

“Great for Kids”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed December 31, 2012

We walked the land bridge with two young kids (5 & 2) and they loved it. We collected lots of shells and rocks and got a nice view of the cruise ships in the harbor.

“A fun hike (make sure you check the tides)”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed December 29, 2012

We took the hike across the "land bridge" while the tide was low and climbed to the summit of Bar Island which affords a beautiful view of Bar Harbor. A very busy "route" It is neat as you walk across and realize that much of the time, the trail is covered with water.

“Causeway”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed December 17, 2012

This is impressive and not too scary. Drive out onto the firmly packed causeway from Bridge Street which adjoins West Street near the old Country Club. During the middle three hours of tide. Don't get caught when the tide comes in as it will cover and destroy your vehicle. The locals love emergency wrecker calls and you will then get soaked by the tide and the wrecker fee guaranteed to be over $100.00. Be sensible, there is plenty of room to turn vehicle around without getting stuck. The island at the end of the causeway is half Acadia National Park and half owned by a famous sports media personality. Note, even he could not build his house along the shore facing Bar Harbor Pier. Code enforcement stopped the construction. You can still see the concrete remains of the foundation.

“a very unique experience”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed November 25, 2012

Here's the deal... you need to go online and check out the tide chart to see when low tide is. At low tide a land bridge is exposed that allows you to walk to Bar Island. The surface of the land bridge is hard pack sand with lots of pebbles and some larger rocks. You're fine wearing sneakers for the trip. The entire walk across the land bridge to the summit of Bar Island takes about 30-45 minutes depending on your speed and stop time. Walking across the land bridge is the best part of this experience. The summit of Bar Island provides a great view of Bar Harbor, but when you're at Acadia National Park you see plenty of amazing views that are more spectacular than this, it's really the land bridge that provides the unique experience. Bar Island is also officially part of Acadia National Park. Don't be one of the yahoo's that drives onto the land bridge ruining some of the experience for others.
