This place is not fancy at all but they are very knowledgeable about lobsters and quite informative. They are very educatuionally based and it is a wonderful service to the lobster industry. Very friendly.

This place cost more the aquarium in Chicago and taught considerably less. The "tour" consisted of a 30 minute question and answer session with someone who was allegedly a lobster fisherman, a 30 minute examination of tanks that contained lobsters, most of which needed to be seen under a microscope and 30 minutes where we had to stand to crowd around a single tank to get a peek at a sea cucumber and a few sea stars. That's it! An hour and a half for $13.50 and the time dragged so much that I found myself checking my watch on several occasions. Do yourself a favor, if you want to learn about lobsters, save yourself the money and look them up in a book.

Visited the Oceanarium in June 2012 during a family vacation to Acadia/Bar Harbor. We went because it was raining, and figured it was a good way to still do something but stay dry. We did not do the outdoor "marsh walk tour" (due to the rain), but we participated in the touch tank (we touched the sea cucumbers and starfish and etc...) and also the lobster hatchery (they showed us a lobster with the eggs under the tail - very cool). Overall it was a good time, worth visiting if hiking or other outdoor activities are not available.

We enjoyed all of the Oceanarium's offerings. We were somewhat surprised that it was a bit shabby looking, but what we learned made up for that by far. Take bug spray, if you plan to do the saltwater marsh walk. The guide shared hers with us, since there were only two of us. It's inexpensive and not to be missed.
