Not approachable except by water, this light is intended to keep ocean going vessels from hitting shallow water. Champlain would have found it helpful on his historic visit. During foggy weather as you walk or rest near Bar Harbor, this is the soothing moan you hear adding its' voice to the warning light. Most Frenchmans' Bay trips will pass by this "rock" during your trip.
