My husband and I have been staying in one of the cottages for over 20 years. The owners live on the property and it is readily apparent that the units are more than rentals to them. The grounds are beautifully maintained - I love the profusion of irises that are in bloom in June. Each year, the Bowdens find ways to improve upon the experience. There is nowhere else on the island that we would stay. This is a dream location - for both the old and young at heart. When we first stayed at Edgewater we were into biking. Now we are avid kayakers. You can put your kayaks into the cove from any unit and then kayak all over Frenchman's Bay - to the Twinies and Thompson Island in one direction and to Hull's Cove and Bar Harbor in the other. There are different rates depending on the time of year -- we like June best.

Room Tip: The rooms in the motel have been totally remodeled and are outstanding (as is the view). For privac...

The Edgewater was a lovely place. It was very relaxing the owner was very accommodating. The view was awesome. It was away from all the tourist traps. The room was newly renovated and extremely clean. One of the most comfortable beds I've ever experienced in a hotel. The room we had was more like a suite than a a hotel room. We would stay there again most definitely.

We stayed in the Seaview in mid May for 4 nights. Shared the accommodations with another couple. The place was recommended by a local that we know. Excellent recommendation!! The place was very quiet at night and has a great view of the cove. We got up early and took walks on the beach. We had a large kitchen that was well supplied. They gave us a lobster pot for the lobsters we made one night. The beds were comfortable and the shower hot. They have Wi-Fi and cable ( that we didn't watch) better to sit on the porch and watch the view. The people who run the place are very nice and accommodating. Less then 10 minutes from Bar Harbor but away from the madness. Wonderful place would definitely stay again.
P. S. Buy some lobsters and steamers from Parson's and cook them in the room. Cheaper, better, and more fun.

The best place ever. We stayed here over the Memorial Day weekend for 3 nights and didn't wanted to leave. We stayed in Rm#24 and loved it. It's cozy and the owners are so warm and welcoming. It feels like home. Very clean and beautifully renovated. Definitely a great find and we will come again for sure here every time we would visit Bar Harbor and surrounding area. We enjoyed out stay tremendously and wished we could come back in summer and maybe rent a cottage, but unfortunately it's already booked out and I can see why.

Room Tip: We loved Rm#24. It even has it's own parking space right out the front entrance.

We loved our stay at The Edgewater! We spent four days and three nights at the Hayloft Suite and couldn't have enjoyed it more. It was large, comfortable and extremely clean. We had a private deck overlooking an inlet off of Salisbury Cove. That is actually how we felt, like we were in our own quiet world. Dave and Jayne were friendly and warm, giving us directions, ideas and recommendations on restaurants in the Bar Harbor area. We had a fire in our fireplace every night and spent a good deal of time on the deck watching the gulls and enjoying a glass of wine or a cup of coffee. It just couldn't have been a better experience and we found it very affordable. I don't know we'll be able to come back to Bar Harbor, but when we do, we'll be staying at The Edgewater and no where else! Thanks Dave and Jayne!

Realized after arrival that would have been a great mistake for us. If you want a real seaside experience away from all the busyness of Bar Harbor and traffic on highway 3, this is it. It's just a few miles to town and Acadia Nat'l Park, but light-years away from the chaos. The motel (a total of 8 units on 2 floors) and cottages are all located at water's edge on Salisbury Cove. We just spent eight nights in #26, one of the newly renovated (2013) motel rooms. It had a queen bed, complete kitchen, comfy sofa and lounge chair, and fireplace that burns dura flame logs you buy at the office. New inverter heat and a/c is quiet and efficient, good lighting, flat screen TV (although we never turned it on.) A three-paneled sliding glass door overlooked the balcony and bay. Lovely, peaceful & quiet. Cottages appear more vintage, but private, quaint and cozy. Walk the rocks at low tide or gaze at the scenery on a rainy day.. a very comfortable refuge after a day in the park. The owners and entire staff were helpful and accommodating. Grounds are beautifully landscaped and the rooms very clean. The wireless worked fine most of the time, however there were times we couldn't connect. We travel a great deal, staying in a variety of mid-range hotels. This one goes to the top of the list.

Room Tip: Visit their website or call them to see pictures/layouts of each room and cottage.

What a perfect location - on Salisbury Bay, near Bar Harbour and Acadia National Park! The views from our front windows were fantastic! This location sits on the shoreline! What a terrific place to sit in the lawn chairs several feet from the the water and enjoy your coffee!
We are very thankful the friendly owners invite visitors to share this special place!
In addition, the rooms are very clean and nicely decorated! Well done!!!
