“Wonderful B&B in Bar Harbor”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed July 22, 2014

Aysgarth Station is perfectly located on a relatively quiet side street in BH. Jane and Steve are great hosts, friendly and accommodating. The breakfasts were wonderful, and our room was very nice. Highly recommended.

Room Tip: Check the website, or call and ask -- the rooms do vary in size and amenities.

Jane and Steve at the Aysgarth offer an exceptional B&B experience. Our room was comfy and had everything we needed, common areas are spacious and inviting, and breakfasts are stellar. it's located just a short walk to shopping, restaurants and activities in Bar Harbor, and a short drive to an Acadia National Park entrance. The real mark of a superior B&B is repeat business, and we we one of the few first-timers staying at the inn during our two-day stay. Nearly everyone else staying during our visit returns annually. I'm sure we'll be among the group soon.

We spent three very enjoyable days/nights in Bar Harbor and enjoyed our stay at the Aysgarth Station. The inn is very convenient for walking to the main part of town. There are lots of restaurants and shops plus the harbor and "Bar" itself. Be sure to find out when the tide is low and walk over to Bar island. We spent the bulk of our time hiking in Acadia National Park. Steve and Jayne were exceptionally good at helping us choose trails and are obviously very familiar with the park. Be sure to borrow one of the audio tour CDs for some nice information as you drive through the park.

The breakfasts were the absolute highlight of our stay. My impression of B&B breakfast foods is overly sweet and rich. This was such a nice change! Jayne's breakfasts are much more savory and gourmet than any other place we've stayed. The corncakes with the spicy ham were amazing!! Even the fruit and the baked goods were out of the ordinary - loved it!! We enjoyed the "big table" format for breakfast which gave us a chance to visit with the other friendly guests. Those on a romantic getaway or honeymoon might not enjoy this as much as we did. We enjoyed meeting Asticou the cat and having an afternoon snack & beverage in the living room.

The only "less than great" thing about our stay was our room. We have traveled a lot in Europe and Japan so we know small rooms and don't need a lot of space. We have stayed at other B&Bs and understand that the descriptor "cozy" means small. We stayed in the Whitby room and it is very, very small - maybe the smallest we've ever stayed in. The pictures on the inn's website are accurate but show the absolute entire room. We had 2 large suitcases (long trip) which took up any available space. There is no place to sit other than the bed. The bathroom is even tinier. We are not large people but both of us thought the bathroom was uncomfortably small (about 4 feet between the door & the edge of the sink). I would consider returning to the inn but would not stay in this room again.

Thanks to Steve and Jayne and Asticou for a pleasant first visit to Bar Harbor.

Thank you, Thank you, Thank you Susan for this wonderful and honest review.
We are so glad you enjoyed your stay
Until 2014, we had not enabled complete on line booking and so always had a chance to speak to our guests. In an odd way we are very glad to see a review highlighting that Whitby is a small room. We have always been very honest about this and have often advised longer stay couples against choosing this room or suggested they unpack and that we store their luggage. With the advent of on line booking we have lost this opportunity; thus we are happy to see these comments posted for all to see.
We try to make the pictures on the website as accurate as possible, but by nature this leaves interpretation up to the observer. Feel free to call us directly if you have questions about any of our rooms.
Whitby is a great room for a short stay or single traveler and is certainly economical, but it is not the right choice for everyone.

Just got back from a fantastic trip to Bar Harbor. Aysgarth Station was a big part of that. Inn keepers were great, informative and fun. Great location, great breakfast! We really appreciated the extra mile they went to make our stay special. We had several days when we had to leave early in the morning and we had excellent bagged breakfasts waiting for us in the morning. Highly recommend!!!!

What a fantastic spot in Bar Harbor! The Aysgarth was really special, a perfect getaway. My boyfriend surprised me for my birthday, and we couldn't have been more pleased with our stay! The breakfast was fantastic, upscale but not stuffy, and I have the best Souvenir mug!! We stayed in the Skipton room, which had a fantastic bathroom and was plenty spacious. We peaked in a few of the other vacant rooms and they all looked lovely. SUPER friendly couple that know a lot about the area, and recommended some excellent restaurants as well. We will definitely return!

My husband and I have been traveling to Bar Harbor/MDI for 6 years now, ever since we spent our first wedding anniversary on the island. We have been back at least once every year, if not more. For the first few visits we tried a different inn each time, but we looked no further after discovering Aysgarth Station B&B. It is the one and only inn we call, and it feels like home now. Jane and Steve are wonderful hosts, providing amazing breakfasts and sparkling clean accommodations, and offering endless ideas and information about activities and hikes around the island. Aysgarth may not be the flashiest inn on MDI, but it is the most cozy and comfortable. You will not be disappointed!

Room Tip: You'll have to climb two flights of stairs, but the two rooms on the third floor are totally wor...

Could not say enough good things about Aysgarth... the rooms, the service, the breakfast, everything was exactly the way I had hoped. Aysgarth is in a GREAT, central location perfect to walk to any of the places in Bar Harbor. Parking is easy, usually next to the house but you can easily park your car and leave it elsewhere. If you're looking for a place to stay, even for a night, check out Aysgarth you won't be disappointed!

Room Tip: We stayed in the Chatsworth room, it's the largest and has the biggest bathroom. try to get thi...
