“Spring break in Bar Harbor. Great weather, great place to stay!”
Reviewed June 9, 2008

Although Bar Harbor is not the first place most people think to go for spring break, we had a wonderful time. We could not have asked for better weather(especially for Maine in April!) and the stay at Aysgarth Station was excellent.

Our room was good sized with a large private bathroom. The furniture was all antique, including the comfortable queen bed. There also was a deck off of our room, but it was a little too cold for us to use. For summer use it would be great. All in all we were very pleased with the room.

Jane and Steve were superb hosts who are very knowledgeable of the park and the local area . They showed us the best hikes to take, and provided maps and directions to the trail heads. They also explained which park roads were open(most of the park was closed when we were there)and which were not. For Mount Desert Island newbies, they made it quite easy for us to find what we were looking for.

Jane's breakfast was a great way to start the day. From cold cereal, yogurt, and fruit to a hot meal we had several options to choose from. If you are still hungry after Jane's breakfast it is not her fault!

As you can tell, we were very pleased with our stay at Aysgarth Station, and would not hesitate to go back again.

The first thing I noticed walking in was the friendly atmosphere, you feel like you’re at home, and welcome in. Our room was beautiful and historic. The decor and historic reading material make are great for raining weather or something to read before going out in the morning or before turning in at night.
The breakfast was something out of a story book, not what I expected at all after getting Continental breakfasts at so many Hotels. 100% First Class can't wait to come back.

From the moment we arrived until we departed we were surround in familial warmth. Even though both Jane and Steve were in the middle of outdoor chores when we got there they stopped and made us feel truely welcomed.
Our Room was immaculate and comfy. All recomendations for dinner were right on. Our hosts were fountains of information and we certainly got more out of trip as a result. Sunrise at the top of Cadilac Mt is a must see. Since it was mid April, it was cold, but Janes offer of Blankets kept the winds at bay. Breakfast when we got back was scrumptious. I still drool when I think of Raggamuffins and Strawberrries. (thanks Jane for the recipie) . Thoughtful casualness was the order of the day. Rich and I felt comfortable enough to play cribbage in the Dinning room while other quests listened to music in the connected parlor. There is nothing 'stuffy' about this house, and that's a sincere compliment.

We had a wonderful week-end in Bar Harbor, made even more special by our fantastic hosts. The inn is comfortable and clean with charming rooms, but the warm welcome we received will have us returning often. Jane prepared interesting and delicious breakfasts that kept us going for hours of cross-country skiing. Hot tea and coffee with cookies were ready for us to enjoy in front of the cheerful fireplace when we returned. You can't go wrong selecting this bed and breakfast inn.

I stayed at Aysgarth Station with my partner in October 2007 as part of a 'leaf peeping' tour of New England. We stumbled across Aysgarth by chance on Google and we couldn't have picked a better place to stay.

We stayed in 'Chatsworth' which is a large room at the back on the first floor with a large ensuite and own private deck. The room had everything that we needed, from peeping into some of the other rooms they looked much smaller but still very luxurious and well equipped.

The food was excellent and we were treated to a delighful quintissential New ENgland breakfast every day, if for some reason this isn't your bag, an alternative was always available. Afternoon tea was equally delicious and I would recommend making this part of your daily intinery!

On a broader note, Bar Harbour and Arcadia are a must on any trip to New England. Bar Harbour is packed with great restaurants (recommend Cafe This Way and Cafe Bluefish) and offers great access to view the island. Best way is to buy a tour cd from the Visitor Centre (or if you're staying at Aysgarth they have them available for loan!) and follow this for a full and thorough tour.

We stayed for one night in early October. I would fully agree with all the other positive comments, adding that Steve fixed both my wife's eyeglasses (a loose screw) and configured my laptop so that I could connect to his WiFi.

That said, guests should be aware of that B&Bs located in old houses may be a bit cramped when compared to modern establishments designed from the outset as hotels/motels/inns. That is probably a small price to pay for the advantages!

We had a lobster dinner at Poor Boy's - excellent!

We had a wonderful experience at this B&B. The hosts (and their cats!) were very friendly. We were greeted and treated very warmly, from check-in through breakfast to check-out. The room we had -- Tan Hill -- was quite nice, and we appreciated the hosts' generosity with
reading materials, tour information, local guides, and complimentary snacks in the room and in the dining room. In addition, Jane has plenty of stories and tourist advice to accompany the tasty and hearty breakfasts. No question in our minds that we would definitely stay there again.
