“Great location, baby friendly, a little expensive”
Reviewed June 28, 2011

We've been here for five nights in June with our little six-month old. Had great service and help for the room to be adapted for the baby. Took an oceanview room with kitchenette that even had a dishwasher which was really useful for us. View was great, hotel grounds are really nice. Both pools and jacuzzis have nice view and are well maintained. They are nicely heated so it's possible o use them even if it can get quite cold in Bar Harbor.

The hotel's restaurant is nice and reasonable value. Servings are WAY too large, can eat for two on most single plates... Breakfast package you can book with the room is really good value.

The rooms are pricey. They do charge everybody with the 25$ resort fee. It wasn't a surprise for us since it is written everywhere when you check the rooms on their website and they told us when we booked.

Staff was really friendly with us. Had a good time there for five days. If you get nice weather, there is a lot to do outdoors. Whale watching/puffin and seabirds cruises were especially fun(if you don't get seasick). Acadia park is nice but very crowded. Cadillac mountain summit is a must-do.

To summarize, a nice resort, probably one of the most upscale in Bar Harbor, but you get the high-end price too.

Room Tip: Check the different type of rooms on their website

Site and plant are impressive. WiFi poor, construction on across street, phone system costly. Restaurant overpriced and is said to be a concession. Front Desk attempted to add in Resort Fees of $50/day for non-operating psudo amenities.

We stayed at the Harborside for five nights...found the staff to be very helpful. The desk personnel lent us an audio tape to play when we toured Acadia National Park.
No flat screen tvs but we spent little time watching any because htere is so much to do outddors.
Restaurant food on the high side but there are many choices in town.
Resort fee now includes use of the high end Bar Harbor Club next door. Great fitness Center and lovely pool area with a view that maximizes the harbor landscape.

My husband and I stayed here for 2 nights. Most people were friendly. The front desk could have been a little more friendlier. We had a problem with our TV and went to the front desk on our way out the door for dinner and when we came back it was fixed. So that was a plus. The room was very elegant. We had a premium king room. Even though the view was the parking lot. We were very satisfied with the room. It was a large room with a king bed, a sofa, small table and two chairs. They showed us another room that had a better view but was very small and cramped. The bathroom was so nice marble floors and shower. The bed was also very comfortable. I am not sure we would stay here again since we really didnt use the pool or any of the amenties that you pay the 25.00 a day for. But that would be the only reason. If you dont use any of those things then you wont feel like you got your moneys worth.

My wife and I decided to go to Bar Harbor and the Harborside looked nice. Surprise! It started with our arrival. We got in at 3:00 am after a 9 hour drive from PA. No one welcomed us or helped us with our luggage from the car. I expected some service regardless of time, as at was close to $600 a nite (we had a suite - more on that...) We checked in and was told that our suite was on the 1st floor over looking the pool. We requested an upper level suite when booking that was ignored. The suite had a new bathroom but the living area and bedroom area were from the 1970's. YOu could smell the mold. After the 1st shower we realized the shower had a massive leak. It took 4 towels each shower to clean it up. The hotel staff couldn't care less. The concierse was unavailable all but once and did not return our calls during the other 3 times we called (all during normal business hours). The whole hotel is run down and they use the bottom floor by the pool as a storing area. We checked out a day early and was charged 100 bucks extra. All in all it was terrible living quarters. I would not recommend this "resort" to my worst enemy. I wasted over 3 grand on this dump. Don't go there! I'm sure there are nicer places as Acadia is worth the travel up North.

Just returned from a 5 day stay at this "resort." We booked an ocean side room. The first day, we were put in a first level handicap room, where the shower flooded the bathroom floor and all clothes in it. We asked to move up a level as not to have people look in the room while we enjoy the view. We were given the choice of a pool side room with the same issue or a room on the other side of the hotel overlooking the parking lot (harbor side). Second day, we were moved to the 3rd level ocean side, but only had a 1/4 size balcony. Be sure to discuss the location, level and balcony size of the room you reserve. They have many room types, so know what you are booking in advance. My opinion is they show a lower price on the internet than a nicer hotel down the street, but make up the price with this $25 resort fee. We complained of extreme construction noise from the town street department, which made the pools useless, however, they would not subtract the resort fee as they said it covers parking and internet also. Coffee in the rooms, but none in the lobby. The hotel does have a great location, pools look nice, and hotel is clean.

Room Tip: Oceanside 2nd or 3rd level w. 1/2 or full balcony.

Thank You for your feedback regarding your recent stay with us. I am glad to hear (although not surprised) you found our rooms clean and comfortable. We are very proud of the pride our housekeepers take in their work. I certainly understand the frustration with the utility project in the street. We have been anxious for the completion of this project, which we have been told will be in the next few days. While it is at times distracting to our guests, we feel it is a very exciting improvement to an already beautiful part of Bar Harbor.

It is unfortunate there was some confusion with your room type and the Resort / Club fee. As you witnessed first hand- the Harborside is a very unique property. We try to offer as many different rooms with different views, amenities etc as we can in order to accommodate the wide variety of our guests needs. I hope our staff was helpful in finding a room that was satisfactory for you.

Over the past several years we have received many requests from our guests who wanted access to the adjacent Bar Harbor Club, in addition to other amenities such as free parking, wireless internet etc. We found from speaking with our guests that they did not appreciate multiple fees for these services as other hotels and airlines charge. In an effort to keep things simple, and offer as many additional services as we could, we bundled everything into one Resort/Club fee. This allows all of our guests membership to the Bar Harbor Club with access to the oceanfront Pool House (which serves lunch and drinks daily), half size Olympic pool, kiddie pool, hot tub, the Club Beach, a direct route to the Sand Bar and Bar Island, 3 clay tennis courts and an expanded fitness center. All of this is in addition to the 24 hour fitness center, ocean side pool and hot tub with poolside food and beverage service, wireless internet and valet parking that we offer at the Harborside. We have also partnered with the Bar Harbor Whale Watch and are pleased to announce that the Resort/Club fee includes a $15 voucher that may be applied to any trip they offer. I recommend a whale watch, but they also offer a tour of Baker Island, lobster fishing, and a lighthouse tour.

Also new this summer is our Harborside Kids Club. This addition was based on guest feedback as well and is included in the Resort/Club fee. Planned activities include games, crafts, scavenger hunts on the Sand Bar, Wii contests and evening camp fires on the Club Beach complete with Smores.

Thanks again for your feedback. Hopefully you will return in the future and take advantage of everything we have to offer.

Sincerely;

General Manager

Bathrooms were marble and tidy. Beds were comfortable and the rooms quite small. Views were excellent. This hotel is directly on the water and the sea breezes were pleasant. The pool side of the property was noisy (screaming children).
The best part of the stay was the restaurant - we had several breakfasts and a dinner there - most elegant.
There is construction going on at the street end of the hotel where we were put. Between the construction and the pool noise it was a constant racket.

Room Tip: ...get a room away from the construction!!!!!
