The value for money and the location of the Bar Harbor Motel are both very good. The motel is only a mile or two from the Hull’s Cove entrance to Acadia National Park (in one direction) and downtown Bar Harbor (in the other). FYI, the Hull’s Cove entrance features the park Visitor’s Center and the start of the Park Loop Road. Although we didn’t use the service, one of the Island Explorer bus routes includes the motel, so you can take the bus to the Bar Harbor village green right from the property (and from there you have access to bus routes that take you to various locations within the Park). Our room was comfortable and a good size. However, we had a couple of major issues with the service at the motel.

We initially arrived around noon, after driving up from Portland. We knew that we might not be able to check in yet, as we were early (check in time was not until 3pm), so when we found out that our room was not, in fact, ready, we drove into town, had lunch, wandered Bar Harbor and did some shopping. We returned at 3pm to check in and freshen up before our late afternoon/evening whale watch (for which we were supposed to arrive at 3:45), only to be told that our room wouldn't be ready for another 40 minutes. When we pointed out that their listed check-in time is 3pm and explained that we didn't have that long to wait for our room because we had to be back in town for a tour, we were rather rudely informed by the manager that there was nothing that could be done. Frankly, we were treated like *we* were the problem. After a bit of back and forth, I finally asked if we could just drop our bags in the room and get some things out of them, even if it wasn't ready. Initially they didn't even want to let us do that, but they ultimately agreed. It was only after all of that, that the manager finally thought to look to see if our room could be switched with another guest who hadn't arrived yet. It turns out there *was* an available room that *had* been cleaned, our reservation was moved to that room, and we were able to check into it. I understand that "things happen," and we were told that they were short a housekeeper or two and that many of the previous guests had waited until the last moment to check out. However, that does not excuse the rude way in which we were spoken to, as if there was something wrong with *us* for expecting our room to be ready by the stated time. Also, they knew we were already in town at noon - could they not perhaps have had housekeeping do our room sooner so that we would be able to check in on time?

The next day we left early to get breakfast and head over to Acadia National Park. After an enjoyable but long day driving and walking the park, we came back to the motel around 4pm to find a "Privacy Please" sign hanging from our door and our room untouched. Except we hadn't put it there!! I called the front desk, and they didn't have a clue (and couldn't do anything about it, as the housekeeping staff had all left for the day). To be honest, it wasn't a huge deal to sleep on beds that hadn't been made, and a bag with clean towels and additional toiletries was left outside of our door. However, it was frustrating and confusing to come back to a room that wasn't cleaned at all due to some mystery person putting the sign on our door. And after our initial problems with our check-in and the rude treatment we had received, it was just sort of the icing on the cake of a bad overall experience.

On the first night when we arrived, I had a reservation for that day and for five nights. They told me that I wasn't due until the next day. Imagine how upset I was. So one of their employee was trying to be helpful by placing us to another motel across the street and he did. The next day in the morning, I spoke with the manager and she was very friendly and understanding. She did not know what went wrong on their system. She apologized and will review the system and will fix what ever the problem was. Other than that, she got us a two bedroom unit right away. The rest of the stay was awesome. Very clean rooms. Continental breakfast was great. Going to Bar Harbor and Acadia National Park were both FANTASTIC. The kids and my wife love it there. This was my 6th time there. I highly recommend Bar Harbor Motel despite that one night of arrival. Special thanks to Pat, the manager!! and her staff, Chelsie, and others. Thank you.

After checking out all the available hotel options in Bar Harbor on TripAdvisor.com, I reserved three 2-bedroom family units at the Bar Harbor Motel for 12 of us to stay during a recent family reunion on the east coast. Everything said in the prior reviews was spot on: the rooms are clean and roomy, the property is extremely well maintained, and both the front desk people and maid service were well above average. Pat was great to deal with and everybody had a great time in Bar Harbor, via the free Island Explorer bus service. That is why it has been consistently voted the best value in Bar Harbor.

Room Tip: If traveling with kids, ask for a room near the pool. The complex is large and the pool is up front...

We stayed for four nights at the motel. This was our second time at this location. We had a queen room on top of the hill. A walkway to the park was available from the property and behind our room. The location was very quite. Our room had a sliding door to an outside patio with chairs. The room was clean with exception of under the beds. It appeared that it had been a while since the floor under the beds saw a vacuum cleaner. The staff was very helpful in answering our questions and did offer suggestion for restaurants. Menus were available but we had to ask for them. Location is less then a mile to town and close to the entrance to the park. Free bus service is available from the hotel to town. The new owners have added a continental breakfast this year. It seems to be a work in progress. The breakfast area was rather small, no hot food. This was however an added plus as it was not expected when our reservation was made. Coffee, tea, fruit, juices, muffins and cereal were available from 6:30 am to 9:30 am. This is a good value for staying in Bar Harbor.

My husband and I stayed for 5 nights at the motel and felt it was a nice place to stay. My son and his family were in a larger room. The location is very good as it's on the Island Explorer bus line and you can walk into the park even though a portion of the walk is rocks. We didn't try it but it seems like a short walk even into Bar Harbor, maybe a mile. We did have wi fi in the room and our room was pleasant and clean.

The breakfast was more than adequate but I wished there was a better fruit and cereal selection. The pool area is nice though one day it looked like it needed cleaning. The kids certainly didn't mind though. Parking was next to our room. Maid service was sparse as our beds didn't seem to be changed and sometimes waste cans weren't emptied but everyone was pleasant and the value is there for your Bar Harbor vacation.

Room Tip: Our room was one of the fartherest from the road. It was quiet and close to the park but far from th...

This is a large motel with several multiunit (about 8 units per building) buildings attractively set in a wooded area. Our king bed room was cramped to the point that the chairs had to crowded into unusable corners to permit movement in the room. The bathroom was similarly cramped, two people could only use it if one was in the shower.
All the facilities (pool, hot water, maid service) worked adequately and there were no major glitches throughout a four day stay. The continental breakfast was exactly that with no hot food (except you could make your own instant oatmeal) but again quite adequate.
The Explorer bus that takes you into Bar Harbor (about a mile away) stops right at the front entrance; that's a plus since once in town there are other bus routes, including several to Arcadia you can use - free.
The front desk was very helpful in many regards though we found their knowledge of all the restaurants around to be limited.
Don't miss the 2 Cats for breakfast ('til 1 pm) in BH and the Trenton Fish Market just a few miles north on Rte. 3 - the best fresh lobster around at fair prices, but very down home surroundings.

Room Tip: Get a room way back in the woods, not up front near the road.

Spent three nights at the motel recently. I found the Bar Harbor Motel to be a bit of letdown based on the generally good reviews given by others on here. The biggest issue being the cleanliness of the room we stayed in. Upon arrival, finding poorly vacuumed floors to pulling back the covers on one of the beds that first night to discover a urine stained sheet (had been washed but the stain was still visible) along with multiple hairs in each bed. I notified the front desk clerk who promptly came to the room and changed the sheets and apologized. The next major problem was the air conditioning unit. We turned the unit on upon arrival and then left the room for a few hours to go into town. When coming back to the room, we were greeted by a strong mold smell. I went to the a/c unit and noticed how dirty it was with dust at the filter. The unit was quickly turned off for the remainder of our stay. The motel does have a nice pool and offers a simple continental breakfast. The free bus service stops directly in front of the motel offering an easy way to get into town.
