Nice place, not real fancy, off the beaten track in fact I read some folks had trouble finding it. We went for dinner. Food was fresh and tasty. Atmosphere is nice and warm, not like some main street places. Appeared to be a fair amount of locals there which is usually a good sign. Try it, I'd say.

We had hoped to stay at the Black Friar but it was booked. So we made a point of going for dinner. It's not elegant, it's a GREAT replica of a British Pub. The kitchen is small, and right off the bar, but don't let size fool you! The food was fantastic! The Drinks large and well made.

We had the Scallop Hash appetizer, which was Excellent. You've got to try this! I almost ordered a double order for my entree!

All the food was fresh, everyone there was pleased with their meals and it was a friendly environment where all of the guests, staff and bartender just had a good ol' time.

Highly recommended. We'll stay there on our next visit.

Depending on your point of view, the location may seem a bit odd (next to a large derelict building) on a side street. Don't let that put you off. The Inn and Pub are excellent.

Lived here for 10 years and did not realize this gem existed until recently! Have had the best breakfast in town here and now can say the best dinner! Service was professional and warm...thank you Wendy! Food was incredible...thanks Don and a friendly inn owner checking on things to boot! Too bad these places can't stay open year round...get there before they close!

While you won't get views of the harbor, you will get a great pub with fabulous service and terrific food. The Lobster Thermidor was yummy... And the breakfast choices--like the French toast was delicious. They could have brought out bread while we were waiting and the dessert portion coul have been larger (tiny slice of cake for $8) but it was great--Frangelico cake with chocolate buttercream icing.

stayed in room #2 (w/ stained glass window). good size room with a nice sitting area. bathroom was clean, but the shower was TINY with poor water pressure. if you really enjoy your showers, pick another room...taking a shower in room #2 is a hassle. sink was old fashioned with separate hot/cod spigots...not a major issue, but if you need to use the sink often (cleaning baby bottles) this is would be a hassle.

bed was pretty good, a bit "bouncy" feeling.

breakfast was served in the cozy downstairs pub. self serve coffee and tea. guests just order off the breakfast menu and the meal is made to order. it's like eating out for free...really enjoyable.
