“Disappointing Private Campground Experience”
Reviewed August 5, 2012

We selected Hadley's Point Campground for a 2-night stay based on Tripadvisor ratings when we found nothing available to reserve at Acadia's campgrounds. We've tent camped for years and this was the fifth private campground we stayed in while on this 2-week trip. Upon check-in we weren't even given a campground map but had to go back and ask for one. Thankfully the tent sites are more private than the RV sites (Walmart's parking lot would provide more privacy!) but that and the fact that this is one of the bus stops were the only positives. The bathrooms and showers were dirty and not cleaned regularly. Out of 3 showers for men (in the whole campground!), 1 was out of order. Out of 6 women's toilets in 2 buildings (in the whole campground!), 1 was out of order. Out of 4 washers in the laundry room, 2 were out of order. Apparently there was nobody to clean or maintain but they made sure to tour the campground in their little truck every morning by 8am to make sure nobody had snuck in to "steal" a night's stay. We figured out soon why there was space available at Hadley's Point Campground when everybody else in Bar Harbor was full.

Hadley's Point campground is in a convenient location, 10 or so minutes from Bar Harbor and the entrance to Acadia National Park. We were in two tent sites, which are on the small side without too much privacy. The bathrooms were pretty clean, but there's no sink outside to wash dishes. When I asked at the front desk, they said I could carry hot water from the laundry room back to the campsite for washing, because we should just use the cold water tap at our campsite. I have never been to a campground that didn't have at least one sink for dishwashing. There is a very small store at the camp office. The pool was nice and warm. We often saw the shuttle bus, though didn't use it. About 1/4 mile from the campground is the ocean (bay) and you can see beautiful sunsets there -- just know that it is a very steep and long hill down & a long walk back. My kids loved this campground because of the pool & plenty of bike-riding, but I was definitely inconvenienced by not having a sink to wash dishes.

My husband and I booked a 2 night stay at Hadley Point and ended up serendipitously having 3 friends in Acadia the same night we were there. The people at Hadley Point were so nice about allowing us to sleep 5 on our campsite. They even gave us a place to park the extra car. Everyone here was so friendly and nice!

Our site was secluded with trees surrounding it. We fit 5 people onto the campsite somehow (it was a tight squeeze) with 3 tents. There are nice firepits and picnic tables on each campsite. The bathroom is a pretty basic campground bathroom with 3 stalls with a toilet and 2 sinks. We didn't check out the showers so no comment there.

The free shuttle service comes right to Hadley Point, which we found VERY nice.

Our site was generally quiet for both nights and in general this place was welcoming and everyone was so nice. The office also sells basic camping goods like bug spray, firewood, and marshmellows.

Only negative was we didn't have a grate over our fire pit. We ended up doing a lobster/clam bake and had to maneuver the rocks over our fire to heat up our pot. We made it work though!

As most campgrounds, they were developed before "THE BIG RIGS". We really do not have a big unit, 27 foot with a slide. But, boy in some of the sites, you are really sardined in. Don't expect privacy and get along with your neighbour.
It was very difficult to know exactly were to park, without encroaching upon your fellow camper, when they are trying to claim their poststamp lot. But this is what you get, if not in a state or national park.
After that, the folks in the office are wonderful, the park is clean, love the lady with her classical music while cleaing.
Showers and washrooms dated but clean.
Free island bus, which will also take bikes.
Showers .50 cents with plenty of time.
Onsite ice and campwood reasonable price.
I would return again.
Just anyother beef of mine campground websites do not have photos of the sites. The photo gallery have photos of people who you don't care about.
Please show photos of the washrooms, sites, showers anything that tells you something about the facility.
Hotels do this, showing rooms and restaurants, the things you what to see.
We should all be demanding this.

it was the first time to me and my family camping. we always wanted to visit Acadia park and this year we decided to to do so in a tent. i read many reviews on different campgrounds in Acadia park area and i found that this site have wonderful reviews. from the first minute we got to the camp, first visit at the office, the location we got (including help from the ladies in the office), the "neighbors" all made it great 5 days where the kids just had a blast.
(the restroom can use some renovation).

Just got home from a ten day stay at Hadley's Point . This was our fourth trip since last summer. It is the only place we will stay. Many other campers that we gave spoken to feel the same as we do !
There are only a handful of family operated campgrounds left in the area. The owners are very helpful and nice. They are committed to their campers. My weight distribution hitch broke upon my arrival on this trip, the owner, Eric, took it to his shop and quickly repaired it for me!!! I was looking at taking it to a dealership which would have been costly. This campground is like a second home for us and we will always come back !!!

This was our first trip long trip from home with our camper. We've been going to the Bar Harbor area for over 35 years and decided to try Hadley's Point. The folks at Hadley were all very nice and friendly, but unlike most of our other campoground stays, once we checked in and paid, we got no directions, no paperwork, no rules and regs or anything else for that matter. We'll give them the benefit of the doubt because they seemed very busy. Everything seemed otherwise to be well tended to with plenty of maintenance personnel around.

PROS: The local (free) bus service is a quick ride to Bar Harbor or the many points of interest in Mount Desart Island. It runs every 30 minutes. A lot of seasonal campers, who are friendly & always willing to help with suggestions on where to go & eat. Great place for families and for pets. Nice & quiet at night.

CONS: REALLY small sites. We called ahead and asked to be put somewhere with a little privacy and were told we only had people on one side of us. Once at our site we were sandwiched in between two big rigs and when we went back to the office, they told us they made a mistake and that would be where we would have to stay. Bathrooms and out buildings are pretty dated but clean with pay showers. No trash pickup but dumpsters were within easy walking distance. Pool area very small and very crowded. No security/no checking; anyone can come and go thru this area.
