We have been to the Side Street Cafe several times over the past few years when vacationing in Bar Harbor. Usually we drive, but this time came to town on a cruise ship.

Although the location is a little ways off the main road up the hill, it is well worth the walk compared to the restaurants closer to the tender docks. If you do come by car, there is a convenient and close public parking area.

The food has been excellent each time we have dined here. The lobster stew is chunky and the lobster roll is among the best we've had. If you are into it, the lobster mac is another signature dish.
The local Bar Harbor craft beer is on draft with a good variety of choices.

Staff is very helpful about ingredients and service has been good. Inside, the tables we have sat at are display case style with family photos, trinkets and sayings. Sometimes a wait, but again, is worth it.

The burgers and lobster were fabulous. The table decorations were interesting. The food arrived quickly and was delicious. We even saved room for the chocolate bread pudding. Be sure to read the story on the back of the menu about the local family that owns/runs the place

The people/staff are very friendly here. The large horseshoe bar is condusive to turning strangers into new aquaintances . I recently found a new Volvo mechanic in such a manner. Jeff Young and his wife run the place as a, "locals place", as their staff shirts make reference to. The food is fine and priced right. I do like Jeff's special creation of Lobster Mac. Now as l have made mnetion of the happy hour >>> It is seven days a week , 3-6. Mixed drinks are $5 and quality local craft brews are $3 a pint. They do have , "T.V. beers", in bottles but l never priced them. My favorite is Cadillac Mountain Stout ...

Ate there two nights in a row and was happy with both meals. Attentive wait staff, tasty food and prices were appropriate. It always has a crowd which also tells you the food is good. Casual dining.

Large menu, varied selection, from pork ribs to lobster roll. A bit on the noisy side but good service and average food.
