“Misleading photos for this post”
Reviewed August 16, 2012

The pretty photos for this post are NOT of Acadia's Ocean Trail, or Ocean Path that the reviewers are writing about. Ocean Trail is along the Park Loop Road starting at the top of the Sand Beach parking lot. It is gorgeous, walking along the rugged cliffs of Acadia above the pounding surf. It takes you past Thunder Hole and all the way to Otter Point. It is about 2 miles long (one way) with several parking areas along the way if you don't feel up to the walk. The scenic coastal photos you see of Acadia, are mostly from this area.

The photos you see for this post are of the Shore Path, not a part of the National Park Trail System. Shore Path is in the town of Bar Harbor that starts at the town landing and follows the edge of the shore for about 1/2 to 3/4 miles with access to roads that will loop you back to town. Shore Path is also very pretty, but in a very different way. There are no rugged cliffs and pounding surf, but you see many islands, pretty hotels/homes, and a shoreline with very interesting rock formations. It's a great place to sit on the rocks with a coffee watching the boats and seabirds.

“Easy walk, go for the Ranger Led walk”
Reviewed August 16, 2012

We took one morning and went to the Ocean Walk. There was a Ranger Led walk scheduled and we decided to give it a try. The Ranger Led Ocean Walk starts in the parking lot at the bottom of the Gorham Mountain Trail and heads south to Otter Cove. The walk itself is a very easy walk and was no trouble for our 10 year old and 8 year old girls. On the day we went, the sun was bright. The views of the ocean contrasted with the rocky cliffs and the blue sky were incredibly beautiful. At one point of the walk, you can look back and see Thunder Hole, Sand Beach and even Cadillac Mountain (as well as a couple of the other mountains). The Ocean Path itself is very scenic. Having the Ranger give information and background on the area and point out specific aspects of the foliage, the rocks and the bay made the walk even better. I would highly recommend this Ranger Led walk as one not to be missed!

“Beautiful”

Allowed for some beautiful views of the jagged rocks & ocean along Maine's Coast. Takes you past Otter Creek, Thunderhole & drops you off at Sand Beach.

“Great views, easy hike”
Reviewed August 10, 2012

This is a nice hike for families with small children. Lots of great views and easy. I would recommend the Otter Point at low tide for children to explore tidal pools.

“Beautiful views”
Reviewed August 10, 2012

Gorgeous views further down the trail towards Otter cliffs. Make sure you go during higher tides if you want to see dramatic waves shooting up Thunder Hole.
