Lovely island, lots of fun, but when hiking make sure you keep track of the tide. You must make sure to bring a boat or be a great swimmer if you want to hike to islands near Bar Harbor, Maine. Tide watch is essential.

Acadia Park is one of the finest small gems in the US. It has enough for all ages and abilities. Over the years we have hiked, biked, eaten popovers, visited the Abbe Museum, painted, and taken the horse and buggy ride. The island has several distinct charming villages and many good places to eat from casual to fine dining. Bar Harbor is the best known little town.Take the island buses whenever possible; you will be so glad you can count on their service, routes and reliability. There's even a beautiful Sand Beach for something different. There are so many kinds of places to stay, including terrific campgrounds which we've done twice. The bus line even picks you up at your campground. It's easy to fill a week on Mount Desert with all kinds of activities and beauty. It really is a treasure.

We loved Climbing Mt. Gorham, Swimming in the Bowl, Playing at Sand Beach, Eating at Thurstons in Bernard, Riding bikes over the carriage roads, Walking the Shore Path and Viewing the boats in Northeast Harbor.

This park has tons of activities to do in it - biking, hiking, horseback riding, and kayaking. The beauty of the park is amazing and it looks to be really well maintained. Definitely a must to at least drive through the park and stop off along the way to take in the views if you're unable to do any of the other activities.
