“Nothing like this place anywhere else in the world!”

My son lived in AmSam for two years & we visited him there in July 2009. Tisa's is exceptional. Tisa is one of the view Samoans that understands eco-tourism & works hard to make things comfy. We went for oomoo (sp?) night which is food cooked the traditional Samoan way in a pit in the ground covered with leaves. The rest rooms are extra special too.

“Great Atmosphere”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed April 26, 2012

Tisa's is a bit of a drive but it is worth it. The atmosphere is awesome....Tisa and her husband Candy Man are both very friendly and always happy to educate visitors on Samoan life. There is an excellent outside bar and seating with breathtaking views of the mountains and the ocean. The bar is adjacent to an excellent stretch of sandy beach perfect for sunbathing. The ocean however, like most of the island, can be a bit rough and "corally". Water shoes are recommended. Keep a close eye on your little ones. You can snorkel here as well but make sure to ask Candy Man or Tisa about the tides as some days they are a bit strong.
Come out on a wednesday night for Umu night where you can watch and learn how to prepare the Samoan traditional BBQ pit (Umu) and then sit down to a huge feast and enjoy. Price is $30 (not inc. drinks) a bit pricey but a good experience if you've never seen an Umu prepared before. Any other day food is available but again pricey in my opinion, $12-14 a plate, and not much food (although the fish is ALWAYS fresh). The drinks are good any day of the week :-D
If you come visit around October time, you definitely have to come to Tisa's for the annual Tatau Festival. Local tattoo artists from around the island (modern day tattoo guns and traditional tapping) come and display their work. You can get an authentic samoan tattoo as well if you'd like and enter into the best tattoo contest as well!
Overall Tisa's is a great experience, a chill atmosphere, never very crowded (except during the tattoo festival), and a great place to just hang out.

“A taste of Samoan Culture”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed April 24, 2012

Tisa's is truly an institution in American Samoa! From the moment you arrive the layers of stress and baggage just disappear into thin air! The feast on Wednesday's requires registration but is well worth the money and time to drive out the East Side and take in some genuine hospitality! The food is delicious, the pina coladas made with real coconut milk are a definite must try! Visitors and Residents alike frequent this awesome beach side getaway nestled on the magnificent East side of Tutuila Island!

“Better than Expected!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed March 6, 2012

Went here and thought we were going to get a typical luau show, instead we got the real thing. They cooked food under banana leaves and in Coconut Shells for hours, then they unvieled it for us and served us up with ample portions. No plates, you are served on a long table covered with Banana leaves! The drinks were fabulous and all made from fresh ingredients on the spot. Dont pass up the opportunity to meet real people from the Island passing on their history and a lua the way we all wish it was done!
