“Tisa's IS THE BEST”

Tisa's Barefoot Bar
Ranked #1 of 13 things to do in Pago Pago

Tisa's Barefoot Bar is without question the best place for food, drink, and relaxing in American Samoa. I recently spent two weeks on the island and Tisa's was the hit of our trip. The only thing we regret is that we didn't we findTisas until after the first week! We stopped by for an afternoon beer on a Saturday and ended up staying for two meals Saturday and came back three more times during our final week on American Samoa.

If you are looking for fresh fish in American Samoa this is your place. Candy Man (part owner of the bar / restaurant along with Tisa) goes fishing most mornings and always has beautiful fresh fish that he caught that day ready to prepare for lunch or dinner. I had a few of the best fish meals of my life at Tisas -- meals that rivaled Mommas Fish House in Maui (which was triple the price). We had fresh Wahoo, Mahi Mahi, and Sailfish each on different evenings.

Further, on Wednesday nights Tisa makes a traditional Samoan umu feast. We had pork, lamb, shrimp, mahi mahi, squash, bread fruit, palusami, salad etc. It was unbelievably good.

The location is amazing as well. It is right on the beach and is open air but has a roof for when it rains. Tisas and the Candy Man who run the bar are two of the nicest people I have experienced in my life -- we always looked forward to getting out of work to go have dinner and see them. They also have a beautiful dog (Palagi) as well as some cats to hang out with.

Overall, Tisa's Barefoot Bar is amazing. I feel bad for anyone who comes to American Samoa without stopping by for a drink or a meal. It is the one absolute MUST of the island.

We were on a cruise ship and as prearranged, were picked up from the harbor. Due to Tisa having recent computer problems, there were too many of us for the transport provided. However, Candy our tour guide quickly organized a small bus to accommodate the 13 of us. We drove around the island stopping at several places along the way. Candy was a great guide, very informative and friendly. Then we arrived at Tisa's Bar where we were made to feel very welcome. Many people went for a snorkel under Candy's supervision, whilst my husband and I elected to snorkel close to shore. Tisa was in the water too, and she introduced herself and swam with us, explaining the area and showing us the fish and coral. After the swim Tisa gave us a weaving demonstration, then we spent a leisurely couple of hours enjoying lunch and cocktails, with an amazing view of the beach. We all agreed this tour was value for money, and enjoyed it immensely!

Tisa's tours are all about getting you to her Bar. I was part of a large tour group of about 60 people on about 4 or 5 buses. We were driven around the island for about an hour or so, during this time there wasn't any narrative from the driver regarding the history or culture of American Samoa. A friend was on Tisa's bus and to be fair she did give lots of information.
Her bar is nice, on a lovely beach and it was great to see the food cooked in a traditional manner.
When we left, all planning by our tour organiser went to pot as we were herded on any bus available so our poor organiser didn't know where anyone was.
If you only have half a day in Pago Pago like I did the taxi's outside the dock will take you around the island and to Tisa's for $10 The meal is not worth an extra $55

We had a group off of a cruise ship on this tour. It was booked privately and not through the ship. We had a total of 3 buses. I was disappointed at the start as we were in the last bus. Tisa held this bus back as she wanted to try and sell the last 4 seats to passengers getting off the ship. So we sat for an extra 30+ minutes waiting for her to return. Only with her driver calling her and telling her we were looking for refunds if the tour did not get moving did she return. The tour was to include going into the National Park. Which it did very briefly on one main road. Then the villages we drove through to get to the bar she narrated a little about each village. That was good. Each of us was looking for some local information, history, etc. However, I felt the main purpose of this tour was to get everyone to her bar and to sell them overpriced alcoholic beverages. It is a very nice outdoor bar with a beautiful beach view. The people are very friendly. The meal which was cooked in the ground was fairly authentic for the area.Just realize that if you pay $65+ pp for this tour that you understand what you are actually getting.
