Owner description: Chief's Luau is TripAdvisor's highest rated luau in the state of Hawaii. It is the ultimate authentic, interactive and romantic experience that culminates with a spectacular 10-minute, 8-man fire knife dance. You will feel you were invited to the Chief's backyard. Experience up-close and personal activities with Chief's entire cast, 'imu ceremony and a sumptuous dinner buffet. Stunning ocean-mountain vista, the smallest and most intimate of all luaus on Oahu. Produced by Chief Sielu Avea.

Definitely get there when it opens, the activities before hand adds to the experience. The view is amazing, wonderful location! The show is great -gives you a little history on the dances. The Chief has such a personality he keeps you laughing. Food is okay, but the pineapple cake at the end is wonderful!!!!

We had the best time at this luau. The activities were one on one and you could interact with Chief.
The food was good and the show was awesome. We will definitely do the luau next time we are in Hawaii. The customer service was excellent and they were very friendly when we ordered the tickets.

I've always been a bit skeptical about luaus, but we had and absolute blast. Other than it being a bit overpriced, and the shuttle be quite expensive as well (i think it was $13 per person) everything else was good. The chief is very funny and entertaining. The fire dancing was amazing. The food was decent. The view/location was absolutely gorgeous and calming. There were all kinds of fun activities before the show got started; spear throwing, airbrush tattoos, and headband weaving. We got the royal package which included 3 free drink tickets per person (as i recall mai tais and wine were the drink options.) Other than the free drinks, i think sitting closer to the stage and walking through a semi-pitiful "aquarium" were the only other "perks" to the royal package. But as i said, we had a great time and i would recommend the Chief's Luau.

We enjoyed our time with the Chief. He is very funny, and makes you feel so welcome.
The food was awesome, and the costumes so pretty.
I've been to several luau's, this is a great one.

I bought our tickets for me, my Mom and my Dad a week before the show where many fellow posters suggested at http://www.hawaiidiscount.com/oahu/luaus/chiefs-luau.htm. This is probably the cheapest and fastest way to get your tickets. We had no problems with purchasing the tickets or with the website (Note though that about a month later you may receive a call from another outfit offering you a vacation - I only got one of these calls and it was pretty easy to say "No").

I highly recommend that you make plans to be there as soon as the gate opens at 4:30 pm.

The location of the luau is scenic - it's a beautiful drive to the location at Sea Life Park. It's about 15 minutes from Waikiki. When you enter the park, you can briefly watch the turtles in captivity.

Upon arrival to the luau area, you receive your lai (how fancy the lai is depends on how much your ticket was). If you buy the cheap seats (like I did) you still get a nice puka shell necklace.

There are several fun activities to keep you occupied prior to the dinner show. If you're so inclined to get an airbrush tattoo, do that first as the lines for that tend to get long. You can try your hand at starting a fire by rubbing two wooden implements, braid leaves and make a "hat", practice your aim at pitching a javelin stick, or learn the hula.

At about 5 pm or so, the Chief unveils the underground roasted pig (get out your camera!) which signals the start of dinner. If you bought the most expensive ticket, your dinner will be served to you. I bought the "Standard Package" and had access to the all you can eat buffet. The food was acceptable; the kalua pig was moist. But the luau is mostly about the show, and not so much about the food.

By the way, there's no reason to pay for the "best" seat. The venue is small and there's really not a bad seat in the house. The "Standard Package" offers seats that are slightly offside to the stage. These seats were fine and cost about $208 for 3 adults.

After dinner, you're in for a 90 minute show featuring dancing and fire antics. The Chief is quite funny and the show is entertaining.

A luau is a thing that you probably need to experience only once. This was our first luau and I am very pleased with our experience.
