Owner description: Chief's Luau is TripAdvisor's highest rated luau in the state of Hawaii. It is the ultimate authentic, interactive and romantic experience that culminates with a spectacular 10-minute, 8-man fire knife dance. You will feel you were invited to the Chief's backyard. Experience up-close and personal activities with Chief's entire cast, 'imu ceremony and a sumptuous dinner buffet. Stunning ocean-mountain vista, the smallest and most intimate of all luaus on Oahu. Produced by Chief Sielu Avea.

The luau was excellent. We had the "cheap" package. The food was warm the whole time which was unusual for a buffet. The entertainment was just that - entertaining! Chief was a hoot. We spent a lot of the time laughing so hard we were crying! It was neat learning about the different cultures while having fun doing it. If only school had been this much fun!

We wanted a non Waikiki style luau and found it
The rest of the reviews cover the details my only suggestion would be get the standard ticket as the seating is just as good
We sat on a edge table so were able to move and turn our chairs made it feel like a family BBQ
A really nice experience for my family the chief really cares about his family and their traditions
Food is ok but again it's a luau
Would definitely go again ahola

We took in the Chief's Luau while in Hawaii. It had come highly recommended and we were not disappointed. An all you could eat buffet was excellent and the entertainment with all the different type of dances - dances from Tahiti, Tola, New Zealand, Fiji, Samoa and of course Hawaii. There were fire dancers which were excellent and the Chief himself kept us laughing. They included audience participation and posed for pictures with us afterwards. It was a very relaxing, enjoyable evening.

This is our third time back in Oahu with our family. I would rate this "good" if I were given the option--3 1/2 rather than a 3...... We opted to try an new luau experience with Chief's. It's pricey and a bit of a drive from downtown Waikiki, but the location is LOVELY!! If you can get a discount for this event, DO IT!!! (If you are military, make use of the MWR ticket hut!!!) We've came to the conclusion that all luaus are a bit cheesy, so it boiled down to the food first and then the quality of the show.... The food was the best of all the luaus--the Kalua pig was really good (and we've had some bad ones) and the other luau menu choices were plentiful and tasty as well...their drink selection could have been better. They gave two alcoholic drink tickets per adult admission purchase--we didn't use them, but you could buy more drinks if you wanted them after your "free" ones. Non alcoholic beverages were slim pickings. The music was great and the performers likewise....The Chief was funny, but he did tend to draw on a bit long....the audience participation portion went on WAY too long and waiting for the Chief to make fire dragged on interminably--should have had a match and a good joke handy!! The fire dancing was a good way to end the evening...it just should have ended sooner. Ladies, if you chill easily, bring a wrap or a jacket, because once the sun goes down behind the mountains, the breeze off the water can be most chilly! As with all of the luaus we've been to, they offer fresh coconut water out of the coconut, a spear throwing lesson, a hula lesson, free temporary tatoos and palm frond weaving (braiding a tribal headband). They also had the ceremony to bring the roasted pig out of the ground...........Prices range from $77, $102 and $135....difference in cost is: seating, drink tix and food service (We opted for the $102 "paradise" package) If you haven't been to one before, Chief's Luau is a good one to try....
