Very spacious studio, high ceilings. Warm air rises and passes up and through the open gables...
Air, breezes, light, and the luxury of space...
Enjoy a big walk in closet with solid wood chest of drawers, luggage and hat racks...
'The best bed I've slept on in my life' (many guests have said this!)
Plenty of windows surround the bed, inviting lots of cooling breezes...
Relaxing and beautiful art hangs on the walls...
The stone bathroom is as spacious as some bedrooms. Rain shower head, open architecture, big enough for two, windows...
We provide the EO product line of soaps for hands and body and hair. It is sumptuous.
More EO...because there is simply nothing too good for our guests.
Air, breezes, light, and the luxury of space...
Huge granite countertop, plenty of room to relax...
View from inside the kitchenette...with everything you'll need to prepare simple meals.
Big bright new kitchenette, clean and spacious
Many guests tell us these photos do not do this space 'justice'...
Let the frog set the mood....
Enjoy locally-grown organic fruit, (when available) often from our own trees, and Hawaii-made chocolates. Buy local!
The view from the Mountain Deck...wow... the gorgeous Koolau Mountains.
Fragrant plumeria from our gardens...
One of the many spectacular sunrises, just steps from our front door...
This welcoming guest lobby is where you pass through to your upstairs suite.
The door to the ZEN Treehouse is open and there on the left...
Everywhere you turn there are beautiful things...
Waimanalo: Ranked the #1 BEST SUMMER BEACH IN THE WORLD. Yes, it's true (don't tell anyone!)
Complimentary: a Macbook in the lobby for you to use; and an iPhone is available to borrow (for int'l guests)
Outside the lobby you'll find loaner beach chairs, boogie boards, coolers... all for your use and enjoyment.
Hawaii's official state flower: the radiant hibiscus
This little bird puts out the most beautiful melodies... usually around dinner time...
Fragrant frangipani floats on the breezes all around the property...
These cute birds are Java sparrows. They hop around the garden and are very friendly...
This is our parking area, the big sliding doors lead into the lobby...so convenient!
Our welcoming front gate.
The Makapu'u Lighthouse is just up the road, a 4 minute drive. Spectacular coastline walk, fantastic whale watching...
This is a Hawaiian sea turtle, or 'honu'. We cherish their presence in our bay...
The view north from Makapu'u Lighthouse. Spectacular!
From December to April, migrating humpack whales frequent the waters around Hawaii. A wonderful experience to watch.
Another beautiful sunrise, guest photo, taken on Waimanalo Beach.

The Zen Treehouse is unreal, it's even bigger than the photos make it look. The kitchen is huge, the bathroom is huge and beautiful, the shower is AMAZING! We were so happy we decided to splurge on this for the last week of our honeymoon. Waimanalo beach is the best beach in Oahu as far as I'm concerned. It's quiet, calm and you can walk for hours along it!
The tree house is only cooled by fans but there are extra's in the closet. Heat sensitive seniors may want to beware, but we were fine with the fans.

Yes, the ZEN Treehouse is indeed an unusually spacious suite, and your comments echoed those of many past guests: "WOW! It's much bigger than we thought!" Capturing the size of this suite in photos has been difficult, so your comments are helpful.

The ZEN Treehouse is 900ft² (84m²) and the Garden Suites are 400ft² (37m²), generous by todays standards, but that is only the size of the floor. When the total space is considered (all suites have 14’ vaulted ceilings) the added value we offer is unparalleled.

We are so glad you enjoyed your stay! It was a joy hosting your honeymoon! We hope to see you on a future anniversary. Aloha, HN

“Zen Tree House is Everything and More”

My wife and I just returned from spending a wonderful week at the Zen Tree House in Waimanalo, Hawaii. If you are looking for a quiet and cozy setting near one of the most beautiful beaches in the world, look no further. Your hostess, Herlinda, has spared no expense in providing you with a studio apartment loaded with the highest quality accessories without sacrificing the least bit of comfort. Attention to every detail from the paint scheme... to the furnishings... to choice of dishes, glasses, and flatware was well thought out and only serves to make your visit to the island that much more enjoyable.
As great as the pictures on the web-site are, you have to see it in person to truly understand what Herlinda has created.

A couple of suggestions.....one take her at her word. This place was designed for peace and quiet, rather than celebrations. If you want, forget the car and have her arrange transportation services to and from the airport. Your driver will make a stop prior to your arrival at a supermarket so that you can stock up on provisions for your stay. Then all you have to do is walk the 100-200 yards to the beach every day and you'll never have to worry about a thing. On the other hand, I'd suggest renting a car after you land at the airport if hopping around the island is part of your plan. Two......if you need to rely on air conditioning, this is probably not the place for you. However, Waiminalo is on the side of the island noted for thier gentle breezes. Even in July, it was quite comfortable at night in the Tree House.

Do your self a favor and give the Zen Tree House in Waimanalo some strong consideration. As you can see by the many favorable comments, you can't go wrong.

“A Gem @ Magical Waimanalo”
Reviewed July 9, 2012 for a stay in June 2012

We were looking for a great place to kick-off our honeymoon in the Hawaiian Islands; instead we found a little slice of heaven. Hale ‘Nalo Beach Rentals in Waimanalo is about a 30-40 drive from the hustle & bustle of Honolulu/Waikiki and provided just the right amount of everything we were looking for in our vacation.

My husband & I spent six days in the modern and ultra comfortable Zen Treehouse Suite. The spacious upstairs studio exudes a relaxed & unpretentious style that immediately set us at ease. The space included a lovely kitchen area with modern appliances and serving ware. Although there is no stove top, we made do with the hot plate & backyard grill. The bright and airy sitting area opened to one of two lanais. The lanai was a great place to enjoy our meals and drinks while listening to the hypnotic sounds of the ocean and feel the kiss of the trade winds as they blow through the palm trees. The bedroom has a huge walk in closet and dresser that provided ample storage space for our luggage. The king bed was a luxurious soft treat for us and gave us a terrific night’s sleep. The bathroom has the same spacious feeling as the living quarters and features a generously sized, open design shower, complete with a river rock floor.

Stunning Waimanalo Beach is a minute walk from Halo ‘Nalo. Although we found the ocean here a bit rough and intimidating to swim in, the beach is the very definition of divine. Waimanalo Beach boasts the most delicate velvet sand imaginable, which made walking this 2 mile unobstructed beach one of our most favorite things to do. We couldn’t get enough of the simply stunning sunrises rising above the blue & green jewel toned water. The beach is crowned by the often misty mountain tops of the Ko’olau Mountain Range, which form a stunning backdrop.

Herlinda, the owner, was a gracious host, as was her trusty companion, Sophie the dog. Herlinda was welcoming, approachable and very accommodating. We had done a bit of food shopping and had forgotten to pickup salad dressing. She was kind enough to let us borrow hers. She shared some of her delicious homemade stewed, spiced, guava compote that was fresh off the stovetop. It was made with guavas that grow in her yard & tasted amazing! Her list of suggestions for dining were spot on. As it turns out, the guava chiffon pancakes at Cinnamon’s Restaurant really are to LIVE for!

If you are looking for a place that offers the privacy a beach rental can, then this place is for you. Situated in a quiet residential neighborhood, Hale ‘Nalo gave us the perfect chance to unwind & enjoy the beauty of Oahu. We were sorry that we couldn’t stay longer and look forward a time when we can plan a return anniversary trip. Until then, if you visit @ Hale ‘Nalo, be sure to give our aloha to Herlinda & Sophie!

“Lived up to it's fabulous recommendations!”
Reviewed April 9, 2012 for a stay in March 2012

We had a lovely time staying in this property last month - the only thing that didn't cooperate was the weather, but if I had to be on Oahu in crazy windy/rainy weather, there is no place I would rather be stranded. The owner is wonderful and provided answers to every question we posed. The accommodations are lovely and outside the hectic scene in Waikiki - a perfect place to relax and use as a home base for exploring the island.

“Looved The Zen Treehouse”
Reviewed March 27, 2012 for a stay in March 2012

I hardly want to give a review for fear of everyone discovering this secret gem and have it not available for rent the next time we come back! But that would be selfish and Herlinda deserves to have people know about this perfect rental as it is apparent the pride she takes in her units! She overlooks NOTHING!
We had a 20 hr travel day and arrived to our treehouse destination just as it got dark and found the property quite easily from Herlinda's directions. We were able to walk right in with no check in dealios to contend with, and trust me, we were exhausted and just wanted to kick back and head to bed! I will not repeat all the other positive reviews as they are totally accurate! Herlinda's attention to detail is right on the mark. You will have absolutely everything you need provided for you and top quality! It was so nice to wake up and brew Kona coffee, drink a nice Hawaiian beverage and eat fresh fruit provided as a welcome.
I want to point out, that of course, we knew we weren't directly on the beach and as a first time Hawaii visitor I'm sure we all have that vision in our minds..HOWEVER..after seeing that we were right outside the entrance access to the beach, we were very pleased....and even more so when you hear just how loud the waves are. I'm not sure I would want to be directly on the beach because it is a constant roar and I would think it would be like a train running by your house 24-7. You can hear the waves from this property but muted which was lovely mixed with the sound of birds! Also this location is basically 20 minutes in every direction to all the places you want to visit and on the direct route to the North Shore. We so loved this place and were thankful to have experienced the real Hawaiian lifestyle...we also spent a week in Honolulu which is a whole different flavour. If you want relaxation, peace and quiet, you found the spot! The owner also supplies reading material on local restaurants, sightseeing, as well as some helpful tips on how to make you feel comfortable in her rental unit. These helpful hints show you the pride Herlinda takes in her property and why it is so clean. There are things supplied in the unit that help you kick back and not worry about spoiling her things..such as the appliance manuals, throw sheets for the furniture when eating sloppy food on the couch while watching tv! I loved that!! We LOVED the refrigerator ice machine..it even had a crushed ice feature for a margarita! :) We were so comfortable in the end, that we felt the Treehouse was ours and that we were leaving our home! TY for everything Herlinda!:) We hope to be back sooner than later!
