We stayed 3 weeks in cabin 1. What a perfect place to relax, unwind and enjoy a little piece of paradise. The waianae coast is a fantastic place to enjoy the beauty of Hawai'i and experience a more authentic Hawaiian experience. Embrace the Aloha spirit and you will want to live aloha too.

We stayed here a week ago with my parents in cabin 31. The cabin was clean and well stocked with dishes, pots, utensils etc. The sheets were clean, there were plenty of towels. We didn't want housekeeping to come everyday, but they brought clean towels everyday and changed the sheets every third day. If we needed more toilet paper or soap, we told them, and it was there within a few hours at most. The cabins and grounds are well maintained.

The beach and water were beautiful. We saw pods of dolphins almost every morning close enough to get pictures.

The only complaints we had were the small round table in the living room and 2 chairs for a 4 person cabin. The other was that we were in the 1st cabin just across the parking lot from the restaurant. The live music on the weekend nights was very loud and went till 11pm. We do not retire early, but it was so loud we had difficulty hearing each other talk on our front deck.

Other than that, the place was really nice and I would stay there again and would recommend it to anyone. It was a little far from most of the attractions but we did not mind the drive because of the beautiful scenery.

Room Tip: Not the one closest to the restaurant/bar.

What a nice surprise! We were a little hesitant after driving through Waianae the night we arrived. Not the best neighborhood, but the PARC was fantastic once we were through the gates. We stayed in the Maui section of the camp and loved it. We were just steps away from the sand and the beautiful, calm water. The two bedroom cottage had everything we needed (pretty much) and the housekeeping staff was fantastic. The cottages themselves could use a little updating but who cares? I'm in Hawaii, right? It was great to be able to cook meals in the small kitchen and outside grill. It also saved us a ton of money not having to eat out and tip constantly like at a hotel. There is good snorkeling right off the beach, and a small area where the surf breaks for surfing or just watching the waves. The only thing we didn't like was on the weekends the locals would consume the base. We didn't mind that they were using the beach because nobody owns the beach, but they also monopolized all the facilities intended for military and retired military families. It was only on Saturday and Sunday and not a huge deal. Overall it was a wonderful place to visit. We are going back in July 2013 for 2 weeks and can't wait!

We arrived at midnight on Friday morning and at 10:00pm that night our cabin was broken into and we were robbed! The locals know when the armed MPs walk around the property and when they dont. Our doors were locked but they busted the slidding door open and stole all of our stuff. Cameras, IPad, Kindle, purses, money, everything - gone! We were away from our cabin for less than 15 minutes. We were being watched like animals. As soon as we stepped away, they pounced! The MPs were nice and took our reports. The local Hawaiian police took a report at the guard tower but never one came to our cabin. They never even went to the "crime sceen." We were in Hawaii for 10 days and this happened on day 1. It totally ruined our vacation! I wanted to go home. I did not enjoy the rest of my stay on the islands! Pokai Bay is not secure as the military wants you to believe. You may not be able to enter the property from the front, but anyone can come in off the beach. There is only a guard standing at the street. No one is protecting the property from the rear. And we were advised that only 1 of the 4 cameras on the property actually worked. Besides all of this - the 3 bedroom 2 bath cabin was very clean and very quiet! Too bad the locals that are just feet away are watching your every move!!

BEAUTIFUL! So quiet and relaxing and our cabin was just steps from the water. This beach has the clearest water you can see everything below you. The beach was clean and very few people there. Snorkeling was magnificent! The views just took your breath away. Every morning we saw dolphins playing and several afternoons there were sea turtles near the shore. The cabin were clean and comfortable although housekeeping only comes on request, they do bring fresh linens everyday and are so friendly. We spent 2 weeks in paradise with no worries from the outside world! Highly recommended!

We stayed in cabin 18 for 7 nights and really enjoyed it. It was our first experience to this military recreation center and when we travel again to Oahu this will be place to return. The PROS: The STAFF!!! The beach was nice, ocean side fun to swim in with the waves and to watch the paddle boarders. Great view of the sunsets. Our unit consisted of 1 bath (shower) and 2 bedrooms -- a queen, and 2 twins (which we moved to make a king). A deck with table and 4 chairs, a living area with a moderately comfortable couch, table and 4 chairs, and a small kitchen with full size stove and refrigerator, coffee pot, pots, pans, dishes for 4 and numerous serving utensils. The CONS: no paper towels, coffee filters, only a sponge for dishes, no soaps, shampoos, etc in bathroom. We brought small travel samples (airline size) and purchased paper towels. Didn't do any cooking but would have been adequate. If you live on the island, easy to pack your car with items needed for camping out. Each unit has grill and picnic table. Even without those amenities, we would come again and plan to shop at the commissary for items needed. McDonald's was a block away and easy walk to access coffee and WIFI. We never could connect at the little restaurant on site. Nice little shoppette with a few bargains even!!

Room Tip: You should request beach side if you have children so you are close by to their swimming.

This is the 6th time I've stayed at the Pokai Bay cabins & highly recommend it. If you want to just kick back and relax ..... this is the place to do it. Or enjoy a fun, family vacation ... this is perfect! Every cabin has a lanai, bbq grill, small but doable kitchen and living area. The beach is great and just steps from the door. Shopette has a little bit of everything. Also restaurant & lounge which has live music on weekends.
Cabins can have bugs (some are buggier than others). Also, housekeeping is more for fresh towels & takes out trash. They do change sheets every few days .... more often than I do at home !! And if I get food/juice on the floor, I wipe it up, since I don't want to attract any more bugs.
Not for those wanting a resort/spa/5 star experience
