Here is a resort that will not disappoint! If you are looking for a family friendly, beautiful resort without the crowds of a city, this one is for you. The accomidations were very clean, and the staff very helpful. If you are looking for a big night life, this is not the place for you. I can't wait to go again!

i spent time with my sis, her husband, her kids and my mom.
it was my first time at ko olina and i found out that it is for mostly kids and family. of course i've been to maui and waikiki before. if you're single, i suggest you go to waikiki because alot of places like hotel, enteraintment and shopping. at ko olina hotel is one of the nicest place along with the beach and long walks but i'm not coming back because it's not for me, it's for most kids and familys. and some of the staff at the ko olina are helpful, nice and friendly. oh if you want to go on the shuttle bus to waikiki , airport or pearl harbor, then ask for sharon (very nice lady). oh again, if you go on honeymoon then go to maui or waikiki (up to you). remind you this ko olina is for familys and kids. oh i also suggest you go to the safeway grocery store get everything you need instead of buying at the marketplace downstair at ko olina. you have to drive to the safeway store from highway (freeway) not very far. they also have fast food resturant, at quizmos, excellent sandwiches and fresh!. that's it.

We went to the Ko Olina on a special "look at our timeshare" package. We have 2 kids age 4 and 5 and we loved every second of this place. We got a free upgrade to a one bedroom suite (after they mistakenly overcharged our card) and it was like heaven-- full kitchen, washer/drier, sitting room, living room, dining room, etc. the kids slept on the pull out couch. the pools are so shallow the kids sometimes went in without us! the food there is not the best and very overpriced so we went to safeway and bought enough food for one to two in room meals a day. We ate at Roy's , the Hapa Grill twice (3.99 all you can eat pancake breakfasts)- the Grass Skirt Grill on the North Shore - when we went to the Dole Plantation, and the Dixie Grill near Pearl Harbour-- (these are the only good places I feel are worth mentioning)--best of all, we went through a bonded agency called Babysitters Unlimited the last night and got a sitter named Renee- an older lady who came armed with crafts , games, toys, and cookies who turned off the TV and had the kids in bed at the right time--- this was the best money spent in hawaii, Since I wanted to vacation with my kids, but still wanted to have some grownup memories. No pressure on the timeshare sales!!!

We just returned from the 6 day 5 night timeshare offer. The resort itself was beautiful and almost everyone that worked there was friendly and helpful. I'll list our likes and dislikes of this resort:

Liked:

1) Beautiful facility - clean and picturesque
2) Friendly staff
3) Rooms beautifully decorated
4) Linger Longer program (provided if you have a later flight on the day of your checkout)

Disliked:

1) Very few food choices, not very appetizing and extremely over priced
2) Young kids (12 and under) running and screaming constantly at the pool and lagoons (some attended but alot seemed to be completely unsupervised)
3) Very few, if any, activities for adults or teenagers after 8:00 pm
4) Having to rent everything for the beach (snorkels, chairs, boogie boards, etc.)
5) No real beach for ocean activities like surfing or boogie boarding (no waves)

Below I have listed a few suggestions for anyone traveling to this location:

1) Stop at the Safeway in Kapolei and pick up some food staples for your room. It's still expensive but will save you money in the long run. Also, go to Long's and get some rafts and snorkels.
2) If you want to learn to surf take the lessons from Hawaii Fire. The instructors were awesome and the beach they take you to was beautiful and very secluded.
3) Go to the Society of Seven show at the Outrigger Waikiki. This show was one of our favorite activities while in Waikiki. We did the dinner buffet w/show and it was definately worth it.
4) If you need any transportation while you're there - we used VIP Transportation for airport shuttles and they were great.
5) If you're there on a Sat/Sun/Wed go to the Flea Market at the Stadium. Local vendors with cool souveniers. Go early because it gets really hot standing on that asphalt later in the day.
6) Definately rent a car if you're staying at Ko Olina.
7) My son golfed at the Ko Olina Golf Course and thought it was excellent.
8) My husband and son chartered the Boom Boom fishing boat for an 8 hour fishing trip - only caught one fish but it wasn't for the captain not making every effort possible.
9) Ko-Olina Cat Dolfin & Snorkeling trip - okay - especially since it was free. Not sure if I'd pay for this excursion or not.
10) We ate at several different restaurants but unfortunately won't recommend any.
11) Paradise Cove Lua - a huge disappointment for us. We got the mid-grade package which got you 4 drink tickets each and served dinner vs. standing in line. Activities were mediocre. The food was, in my opinion below average, seating was not the best but the service during the meal was excellent. The show was good but everything leading up to it was so so.
11) Take a ride to the North Shore. Wow! We stopped at the Dole Pineapple Plantation and walked around and got a Dole Whip (yummy). Stopped at Waimea Beach. This was my favorite beach of all. My son especially liked the rocks for jumping off. If you go - get there early because we went on a Monday and the parking lot was full by 10:00. We stopped at Giovanni's for lunch (shrimp scampi). This is a local favorite and was pretty good. $12.00 for 12 shrimp and 2 scoops of white rice. On the drive back we stopped at another beach to watch the giant sea turtles sun bathing - that was pretty cool. Last leg of the North Shore journey we stopped in Haleiwa for a Matsumoto's Shave Ice. The best shaved ice on the island. We waited in line 30 minutes for one but it was worth it - they even put a scoop of the best vanilla ice cream I've ever tasted in the bottom of the cup. Cool little town for shopping as well.

All in all a pretty nice vacation but would not travel to this island again.

Well that pretty much wraps it up. Hope this review helps.

I just returned from the Marriott. A few quick notes for anyone planning on visiting the hotel.
1. If you do not have kids, DO NOT go. The resort is full of families with kids under 12. That being said, this place is great if you have kids. The pools are very well suited for younger kids with lots of shallow areas and islands. The ocean is also very shallow with no waves, so kids like it. Along with the kids comes the expected noise. So if you are looking for a quiet time by the pool you are not going to get it.
2. The beach area is very small. Although there is a nice path to walk along that connects the beach club to the JW you cannot take long walks along the beach. That brings me to my only really serious problem with the hotel.
3. There is construction and lots of it! Any time you look either to the left or right of the resort all you see are cranes and large dump trucks. And yes the trucks are loud, the beeping sound of trucks reversing was a constant by the pool. As well the path connecting the beach club to the JW gives you a nice tour of the construction sites. It is too loud in many points to even hear yourself talk.
4. The big plus of the place is the rooms. They are fantastic, nice big TVs, new furniture, great beds. Only problem is that I didnt come to Hawaii to sit in my hotel room.
5. As far as food goes, there is not too much around. The beach resturant is exepensive, but not too bad. If you dont have a car while you are there you will be disappointed. We ended up driving to Wikikii a few time.
6. With regards to the traffic, we did not experience any. If you try and avoid rush hour it is only about a 25 min drive into town.

Bottom line... If you are a family this is a great place... if you a honeymooner dont bother!

This resort is truly paradise. It is very beautiful. The room my family had was adequate. I tried to upgrade but nothing was available. The reason I gave the resort only an above aqverage rating is because the staff is lacking in knowledge, customer service skills and effeciency. Check in time is 4:00 P M. We arrived promtly at 4:00. Our room still was not ready at 5:15. After much discussion with the staff about our groceries sitting in the car in 80 degree plus heat, we finally got a room. The best find of all though was the Ko Olina Tour Company run by Robert and Coni. We went on the Shrimp Shack Tour. It couldn't have been better. They are great guides. They take you to places most tours don't, so you get a feel of the real island. Coni was an employee at the Ko Olina Beach Club. The resort promotes a different tour company, which is a shame. Not only do they do a great tour, they give their clients a CD with pictures they take of you during the tour and of the historic landmarks, etc during the tour. They do several tours. When we asked about other sites not to miss on Oahu, like Pearl Harbor, they were willing to give us all the pertinant information, even though they offer a tour there. Be sure to book a tour with them. Overall, we had a great time.

We received one of the Marriott mailings for a 5 night stay at this property and had heard good things about it, visited this website and read the reviews and decided to give it a try in May 2006. Others have commented on the lack of amenities and we would agree so I won't address that. When we checked our villa ended up being a very small room with a short double bed. The deck was so small that there was barely enough room for the table and chairs and no way for someone to get to the second chair without crawling over the table. The view from the deck, if there was one, was completely blocked by a palm tree that was right in from of the deck. There was a wall extending out a ways from the north side of the deck that completely blocked any view in that direction. The kitchen (mind you no eating facilities on the property--except the snack bar by the pool) consisted of a tiny microwave, a coffee maker and a small refrigerator. We stayed all of 20 minutes and went to check out and find another place. The reception people appeared surprised. They offered to refurn us $500 of the $700+ that we'd paid for the package--but we haven't seen that yet. But they told us we couldn't keep the car and had to turn it back in. We did that the next day after driving into Honolulu and getting a room on Waikiki (which I like much better than out there), and it only cost be $85 to have the car for one day. Some people seem to have a good time there by these glowing reviews that you read. I don't think that I would ever consider going back.
