Our family of six (2 adults, 4 children: 16, 14, 12, 10) stayed Aug. 16-23 and we used Marriott reward points. We only had to pay a daily $30.00 parking fee, and $20 a day for a roll-a-way bed, plus food charges to the room.
Each day there is a list of activities such as pilates/yoga/Zumba/walking, hula lessons, ukulele lessons, lei making classes, etc.
On Tuesday night we briefly watched from the sidelines the beautiful event of Hawaiian dancers (attending guests need to pay for the luau dinner and event). On Wednesday night was Ko'Olina Has Talent and the resort encourages anyone to participate for fun. Our daughter presented her art drawings as her talent, and it was really fun to watch kids sing, dance, do gymnastics, hula hoop tricks, and more.
We highly recommend Keoni, who works in the Activities Dept., because we loved his humor, his bright smile, and his fun nature. He would say, "If you had a fun time with this activity, my name is Keoni. If you didn't like it, that's not my name." Very humorous, indeed!
On Fridays, Kariel the Mermaid comes to play with kids in the pool and she tells wonderful mermaid stories!
The resort itself is so clean and beautiful! Each morning we watched as the maintenance crew raked the sand at the Lagoon pool, cleaned and shined the barbeque grills, mowed the lawns, trimmed trees, cleaned sidewalks, and many things that are done to beautify this property.
All of the resort employees are cheerful, friendly, and welcoming! Curtis in the Welcome Center was a wealth of information and had wonderful recommendations for local sites. He highly advised to leave by 6am to visit Pearl Harbor, otherwise we may not get a ticket to the USS Arizona Memorial. Thank goodness we followed his advice and arrived in time for an 8am visit to the memorial (traffic in the morning was slow).
Our room was on the 6th floor of Hale Mauna and was very quiet. We never heard neighbors, and rarely anyone in the hallways. The room was a 1 bedroom villa with a full kitchen and washer and dryer (the w/d saved us with our large family dirty clothes!). We requested two roll-a-way beds for our two oldest kids, and there was still plenty of room to move around. We went to Costco (within 5 miles) and Whole Foods (downtown Honolulu) to buy enough groceries to last us for a week, which saved us SO MUCH MONEY compared to eating out. By the way, Costco has seasoned pork ribs that are fabulous on the grill!
Thank you for this lovely property, hard-working employees, top-notch customer care, and authentic Hawaiian spirit!
