“Avoid unless you want to PAY TOO MUCH for MEDIOCRE FOOD”
Reviewed February 14, 2013

One of the few poor experiences I've had a Disney resort. The short version of this review - $240 for dinner for two adults and two kids that was dry, bland, and just not that special.

Atmosphere is nice but the decor is the best part of this restaurant.

Service was average.

Price - UNREASONABLE even for Hawaii.

Skip this place! Go to the MONKEYPOD Kitchen across the street!! Better food and cheaper prices.

“Had a great time with kids and Mickey!”
Reviewed February 14, 2013

We went for a Character Breakfast on a Saturday morning. Service is excellent, prices are high, food is above your buffet food average. Many choices and fresh. We started our brunch at 11 am and the characters stayed until 11:45 am. If you want to enjoy more of Mickey, Minnie and Goofy or whomever is around, reserve to eat before 11 am.
As we were not guest of the hotel we could not use the amazing pool, just the beach (all beaches are public in Hawaii anyway). Valet parking was free validated with any $35 purchase (easy) and valid for up to 4 hours.
Resort itself is very nice and the children (ages 2, 3 and 5) spend a long time with every character. I do not know if it is just like that, or we were just in luck.

“A NICE VARIETY OF FOOD”
Reviewed January 30, 2013

We dined here twice on our stay at Aulani, breakfast and dinner. We all enjoyed our meals and the amount of food they had. My 11 year old son had no problem finding things her liked to eat. Service was good, friendly staff, recommended!

“Expect nothing but the best from Disney”
Reviewed January 30, 2013

Lots of times a waitress on a buffet is not attentive. Cannot say that here! She was very attentive, clearing plates, refilling drinks, recommending items on buffet.
I was also very please with the look of the buffet. They were constantly making sure food was replenished, messes cleaned and looking fresh.
And the food... SO GOOD. There wasn't one thing bad.
My only complaint - I ate WAY too much. :)

“Good food, but most definitely over priced.”
Reviewed January 25, 2013

Our first night at Aulani we tried the Makahiki buffet. The restaurant has some really neat design elements, and being our first few hours at the resort, really helped set the tone for our time there at Aulani. The food was very good. We especially enjoyed the Molokai Sweet potatoes. Some other items I recall from the buffet were prime rib, roast beef and rooted veggies, crab legs, an array of sushi (all pretty tasty), mashed potatoes, roasted potatoes, fried rice, roasted asparagus, Huli Huli chicken, seafood soup, guava bbq ribs and some kid offerings like chicken fingers and mac and cheese. For dessert they had caramel bread pudding, a coconut cake, macadamia nut and caramel tarts, a guava cake, as well as an array of fresh fruit like pineapple, papaya, and strawberries.
The drinks were also nice, I had a Maitai, and my wife had a lava flow. The restaurant sits right in front of the lazy river and a large koi pond with various fountains and waterfalls.
The biggest con to Makahiki is the $43 price tag. Obviously I’d be skeptical of paying that kind of money for a little one. Luckily our daughter was 16 months and ate for free…
I believe Makahiki has a great selection of tasty food, but once again, like most of the restaurants at Aulani, it’s completely over priced. I feel like a $25-$30 price tag for the buffet would be more reasonable.
