“Braekfast Buffet Good...Lunch is OK”
Reviewed November 30, 2012

During our stay at the Marriott, we ate at Longboards 3 times. The breakfast buffet was by far the best option.
When we went to lunch, it was so so. Some of the sides they did not have

“Nice View, Good Food but Bring a Fat Wallet”
Reviewed November 28, 2012

While doing our annual Thanksgiving vacation at our timeshare at the Marriott's Ko Olina Resort we saw that the bar and grill near the beach lagoon had changed hands and a new vendor had taken up residence there. "Longboards" is one of a chain of bar and grills in the Islands. Time for a quick review.

View - Outstanding. You are just 50 yards from Ko Olina's man-made ocean lagoons. Great views of the beach, ocean and Hawaiian sunsets.

Food - American and Hawaiian fare with a focus on fresh local fish. We tried the BBQ sandwich ($17) and Fish Tacos ($18). Both meals were well prepared and presented. The menu is nice if you like seafood, but they have a number of other sandwiches to try. We also did the breakfast buffet. Too expensive for normal breakfast fare.

Drinks - Several draft and bottled domestic, local and imported beers. All sorts of tropical rum drinks. No real "Happy Hour" prices unless you call $1 off drinks a deal.

Service - Much to be desired here. Management needs to take some ownership. Too much gabbing between servers and not enough attention to patrons. We waited at our table after the Noon rush and after 10 minutes I actually had to harpoon one of the gossiping gals and haul her over to the table. There was a lot of that going around. Management must have been enjoying the beach that day.

Restaurant appearance - Nice and clean. Open and airy. Sufficient tables for 200 patrons. Nice bar that seats about 15.

Summary - Food is too expensive for what you get with the mediocre service. But heck, it's a Marriott; so what do you expect. I'm sure the Japanese tourists think it's a steal. Far better breakfasts to be had for much less prices in nearby Kapolei; lunches and dinners too. But if you don't mind high prices to sit near the beach, have at it. You're on vacation!
Just bring a fat wallet. LOL

Score: 2.5 forks out of 5.

“Good for Lunch”
Reviewed November 26, 2012

Lunch was good, but breakfast was horrible. Good selection of food for lunch. The breakfast buffet was 1 grade above Dennys. Not much selection either. Service was excellent.

“Good dining with a great view at Ko Olina Marriotts”
Reviewed November 25, 2012

The bride and I have had a timeshare at Ko Olina, Marriotts for several years and returned this week for Thankgiving vacation. This time we found a new restaurant venue in place of the former bar and grill. This place is one of the "Longboards" chain. So here's the review.

First of all, you sure can't go wrong with the view. Longboard's is just above the beautiful beach cove just 100 yards from the water's edge so you can have a wonderful view of the cove, water and sunsets. Longboard's is a bar and grill with an emphasis on grilled seafood of which there are several selections of local fish served. All are good. There is seating for about 100 and a nice bar that seats about 20. Many of the outside seats are covered by large floating umbrellas.

We visited the restaurant on four occasions for sunset drinks, lunch and their breakfast buffet. In the afternoon from 4-6 pm they provide a "Happy Hour," but don't expect much of a discount off of their drinks. for lunch we ordered a BBQ pulled pork sandwich and fish tacos. Both meals had nice presentations and came with fruit and fries. The local fish ono was nicely seasoned and grilled and the BBQ pork was good with a great BBQ sauce. The breakfast buffet fare was a typical buffet and average as buffets go. However, not worth the price.

Service - Well, let's just say that this place needs some work on management's end. Too many servers chatting with each other and not much "service" being accomplished. In fact, when we visited for lunch at a time when the lunch crowd had already left, we waited for over 10 minutes with NO server visiting us. I spied three gals gossiping less than 20 feet from us and I had to get up and snag one of them to help us. Ouch! That's usually a deal breaker in my book. The manager must have been snorkeling that hour.

Prices - Hey, it's a Marriott. What can I tell you. You're going to pay through the nose. My BBQ sandwich was $17 and the fish tacos were $18. Beers are $6-7 for a domestic (What?!) and higher for a local or imported. What economy? But hell, there are plenty of Japanese tourists who think this is a steal so who gives a darn what the Americans think, anyway. Right?

Summary - Food is good; service isn't and the prices are off the hook. Don't expect it to change either. Nice place for a drink to watch the sunset. It's a Marriott and they're aren't any cheap ones that I've found yet so it is what it is. A great place for 1%er's and Japanese tourists to hang out. BTW, I voted conservative in the last election so what do I know, anyway.

“Zero complaints!”
Reviewed November 20, 2012

We stayed at the Marriott Ko Olina Beach Club and spent quite a bit of time at Longboard's -- the fish tacos were so good and the lava flows were strong enough to knock you over. The staff was really attentive and friendly, and the prices weren't too high for a resort restaurant!
