“IF YOU HAVE YOUNG CHILDREN, this is the cherry on the cake !”
Reviewed February 26, 2013

We stayed here our last 3 evenings in February 2013 in Hawaii. We stayed here just before coming to Aulani (with a 2 and 4 year old): * MAUI: 7 nights at the Hyatt Regency, Maui at Kanaapali Beach; * OAHU (same island as Aulani): Hilton Hawaiian Village Waikiki Beach (in the Rainbow Tower)........so see my reviews for those 2 as well, to get a bigger picture of my "feeling" on things :)

MEET and GREET when you walk into Aulani is the absolute best I have ever come across.....and I mean ever encountered. From the moment you stop there, right to check in.......they set the standard ! Bell men, front desk, host........... so the tone is set for something special, and the kids can feel it !

SIZE OF RESORT is biggish, but not as big for instance as the massive Hilton I referred to above..... nothing you can't walk to with a stroller :) The layout impressed me: simplified you have this U-shaped building structure, the sides representing accommodation rooms and the bottom of the U the administrative side (lobby, restaurants, check-in, shops etc). Inside this U structure is the "water park": volcano like slides, lazy river on boundary, water park for toddlers/young ones, the reef (where you can snorkle and see tropical fish in salt water), some quick food and sweet shop shops........which then (towards the opening of the U in my example) turn towards the family swimming pools and eventually the ocean........ it was WELL designed and the accommodation towers have entrances right beside the "waterpark" area............nice touch.

PARKING for guests available, enquire rates as we didn't use it (I may be mistaken but think its complimentary). I think, if you visit this resort and unless you want to shop or see other island attractions, you do not need a car rental. Taxi fair is $55 flat rate with Charley's taxi.......

WIFI complimentary, nice speed.......

ROOMS are modern, well appointed, nicely designed and appointed as well.....not overly big but plenty space for a family of 4. It has a nice TV (nice kids channels), a fridge (important), a safe. We asked, and got a complimentary microwave oven. No kitchen though (was not expected :)... nice, subtle Mickey undertones........ if you look carefully.......but I'm not going to spoil your fun !!!

RESTAURANTS: I suppose you will see when you get there, but we joined in with the Character Breakfast (fun and music for little ones, Mickey/Donald/Goofy/Minnie attends, lots of pics to take for free) in the main restaurant area...... a buffet otherwise that will set you back around $100 for 4 (2 children). They cater food just for the children (eg Mickey waffles etc)....... At the same restaurant in the evenings you can join a "non character" buffet dinner which (with 2 cocktails) for the same party of 4, may set you back $150 tip included. There are other restaurants........ "Off the Hook" near the family pool was tried, decent prices for everyday food...... and Mama's Shack also close - a hut with fast foods, at good prices (closed at night I think). Other restaurants too....but I can't comment as we didn't eat there.....

SMALL IN HOUSE SHOP with necessities....... and some souvenirs........

WATER FUN all around for children....

BEACH (protected cove with soft sand) is very beautiful, water is mild and calm..... I snorkled there, but not really much to see....try the REEF at Aulani though !! ($20 a pop, or $40 for your full stay).......

ABC STORE within walking distance, if you go out the main entrance...plus some other restaurants too.....

LOTS AND LOTS AND LOTS OF ACTIVITIES for children.....too much to mention !!!! Try Mama's Beach House (from 8-10am free, bookings for programs thereafter). It's like a Disney Daycare but so much more FUN with options....and the characters visit there too .... My son wiggled-dance, shook his biscuit, with Donald !

ALL IN ALL I CAN NOT FAULT THIS ESTABLISHMENT and give it a 5* thumbs up ! It is not cheap, but worth the $$ for the memories, and especially for the family entertainment side. Take note: Disney isn't "in your face" here, you can enjoy a good family holiday without an overwhelming Disney effect....and you will learn quickly: if your children is happy, you are happy ! If the $$ is a factor, book less evenings.... we stayed here for 3 evenings..... and had a blast ! Would like to go again, if time, opportunity and $$ permits....... Happy travels !

My husband and I are Disney Vacation Club members and wanted to try out this new vacation club resort. It was everything and more than we expected. The cast members were so pleasant, polite, genuine, and accommodating from the moment we arrived until we left. We had a 1 bedroom villa on the 14th floor with a beautiful ocean view. The room was so beautifully designed and appointed with top quality ammenities. We had breakfast every morning at 'Ama 'Ama overlooking the gorgeous ocean. And yes, those fruit crepes are to die for, as other reviewers have noted! We also dined at 'Ama 'Ama the first night of our stay and we had a wonderful dinner as well. On our last day, we went to the Vacation Club Members area and were welcomed by cast member Alan, who so graciously answered all of our questions and even arranged to show us the 3 bedroom villa, which is absolutely spectacular. There seemed to be plenty of lounge chairs both at the pool area and on the beach, and they are currently expanding their lounging areas further. We had a wonderful stay and can't wait to visit again.

Room Tip: The "standard" rooms are those on the fifth floor and below. Definitely ask for a higher...

We traveled to Aulani this February break with our extended family and had a very enjoyable stay. This would be a fantastic resort for children under the age of 10 and I would not choose this resort unless you have children with you. We had a two bedroom villa that slept 8 and was very well appointed including the kitchen. The room was a "lock out" two bedroom meaning that the two rooms could be rented either as a studio and a one-bedroom or a two bedroom. This lead to the greatest challenge of the vacation, the fact that our room keys never worked correctly for the rooms leading the staff to have to reissue them 6 times over 5 days. The staff was lovely and obviously takes pride in the hotel and providing a high level of service. We paid for our stay using both Disney vacation points and cash. If you are paying cash for the rooms it is expensive no matter how you cut it. The other reviewers are correct that Hawaii is generally expensive but as a point of comparison we went from the Aulani to the Fairmont on Hawaii and the Fairmont was significantly less expensive. Less than 2 miles from the Aulani is a shopping center with a Target and Costco. It is definitely worth the 10 minute ride to go there and load up on drinks, snacks and food. We ate one meal on the property (dinner at the Makahiki) and the food was mediocre.

No detail is overlooked. This place is fantastic. Truly magical. Wonderful staff, aka "cast members". I highly recommend the character breakfast and the twisty slide in the pool where you ride down on an inflatable donut. I had the time of my life here. :-)

The Aulani is a great resort with kids. We had the one bedroom suite with a full kitchen and it was perfect for snacks and meals and had all of the luxury amenities. The materials and workmanship in the room and the resort property are all high quality and new. The one bedroom suite has a full stacked washer/dryer as well, so is good for the bathing suits after a day in the water. The lagoon adjacent to the resort is very smooth and excellent for swimming and paddle boarding. The pool is average, but the water slides and lazy river make up for it. For families with younger kids, there are plenty of opportunities to have encounters with Disney characters and there are a lot of programmed activities. The one down side at the resort is the choice of restaurants. The food is average and overpriced (typical for these types of resorts), but if you have a room with a kitchen, that is not a problem, and fortunately there are some local food options just across the street from the resort that are worth trying. The resort is somewhat isolated on the Southwest corner of Oahu, so if you want to explore during your visit, you will need to book the resort excursions, take the shuttle to Waikiki, or rent a car.

True Disney style and service, they made us feel truly special from the moment we arrived, and the quality service and treatment did end until we left. The resort is excellent, amenities outstanding and great for both adult couples and families with kids. They have something tailored for both.

Room Tip: If you are going to 'do' and see Waikiki, this resort is not convenient. But if you are look...

The staff and sites made our trip to Oahu wonderful. From places to see to help with an injury, the staff at Aulani were wonderful.
On our last day we did the Menehune Adventure Trail. This high-tech scavenger hunt leads you through Aulani as you solve riddles, search for hidden statues and discover surprises left ... I wish we did this earlier. It was a great way to learn about Hawaii. The only problem was with the handheld PDAs which didn't always cooperate. The spa was expensive but enjoyable! The lazy river and pools were great!

Room Tip: We had a mountain view room but we were able to see the ocean. We didn't spend much time in the...
