Aulani is AMAZING, we thought this would be a one off trip, to check out Disney in Hawaii. But, the from the moment you arrive, you know you are somewhere very special, very well thought and detailed in everyway possible. The 2nd part of our trip, we moved over to Waikiki, and ended up changing our mind and coming back to Aulani + became DVC members which is something that I never expected to do on this trip but the hotel is just so amazing, you feel like you want to become a part of it :-) We traveled as a family, with 2 young children (4 & 6). They loved this hotel! We have done Disney before and never have they almost left somewhere is tears, of all the nice places they have been to. Aulani touched our family, and we can't wait to return!

The only parts that could do with improvement are:

#1 - Food options. It was expensive to eat at the Makahiki buffet. The food was nice but I felt the child prices could be lower. My 4 year old ate less than a plate full, so when we returned to this restaurant I ordered a child's meal from the menu for him, which was much better for his appetite. Around $8.50 for a meal, drink and dessert. Some healthier lunch food options for the kids would be good also, everything seems to come with fries and we lived off chicken tenders (they were good - very good - but not so healthy!)

#2 Add a child's stepping stool to all the rooms. The sinks were too high for even my 4 year old to reach the taps, making teeth brushing and hand washing something that I always had to attend to myself.

~~Love the staff, the property is beautiful, I loved receiving the daily IWA, a schedule of everything on offer for the day. Lazy river, pools, Menehune play area and slides all great and the beach just beautiful and very relaxing. I loved the Menehune Adventure trail, you will discover just how well thought out this hotel is, when the adventure reveals all the hidden magic. The Menehune makes it fun for the kids, my children loved them!

Room Tip: Standard View will face the car park or convention center. Try to get an Island garden view or bette...

Arrived from Honolulu Airport via Hawaiian Island Shuttle (about a 40 min drive). Once you arrive you are given a warm Hawaiian reception complete with a Lei for the men and women in your group. The initial sight of the lobby is overwhelming...it is beautiful. The grounds are laid out to give you a tropical island village. The service and attention we got (my wife and I) was great, typical Disney fashion. My concern that Mickey would be "in our face" all the time was unfounded. The pool area, lazy river, slide and infinity hot tubs were also very nice. There is daily entertainment on the premises at no extra charge so that was also a plus. Aulani has a private lagoon which was a bit tame for thrill seekers (no body surfing or waves of any size), but perfect for small children and couples just wanting to relax in the water. Employee's are available to set up an umbrella and seating for you once you have selected an area, and after setting things up refused a tip...WOW!! Drink service at the shore's edge was a little slow to come around, but I just took my own crush-able cooler with my own water and beer (cans), so that wasn't a bother. The rooms are very nice. We stayed in a 1 bedroom villa with a kitchen and washer/dryer. The only complaint I had was the isolation of the resort. There is an ABC convenience store close by a short walking distance, as well as a Mexican restaurant called Just Tacos (good food). The Hawaiian BBQ place was horrible (stay away). We were there at the time of the last big boxing match Pac-man and Marquez and there was virtually no way to see it. No pay per view at the resort, no close by sports bar, no bars, clubs or anything else. The nearest shopping center was about 6 miles away where you will find a Costco, Super Target among other stores. The Alamo Car rental was totally hassle free. We had a reservation set up through Costco for a convertible. The Alamo office is just down the hall from the resort front desk. They bring the car around to the front of the resort and away you go. Returning the car after hours was just handing the keys to the Aulani valet (after hours), and your done! Wow, simple or what??!! Worth checking out!!

Room Tip: Pool view rooms will also give you a partial ocean view.

Did an overnight @ Aulani and it was an amazing experience! The thing that made it such an awesome stay was the staff there. When you arrive they welcome you with leis for the adults and a necklace for the kids (and they give it to everyone not just tourist who are new to Hawaii). They were very welcoming and friendly and just very willing to help throughout our stay. They had a lot of staff at the property and they were VERY kid friendly. The rooms itself were very clean and nicely done to match the hotel and the landscape outside. The beds were very comfortable and pillows were perfect for a good night's sleep. They have a lot of free activities for kids and adults to do through the day. We did not do many of the activities because the kids didn't want to leave the pool. We did get a chance to make our own orchid lei which was very fun for the kids to do. The pools are open until 10:00 p. which was very nice. And they have 2 slides (one was a inner tube slide which ends up in the lazy river) that the kids really enjoyed and they closed the slides at 8:00 p. It was nice to have the option of enjoying the pool in the evening especially for the kids. The characters came out pretty often at the hotel so it was pretty easy to get pics with them. We did the character breakfast and the kids really enjoyed themselves. The food was good but they could improve their waffles and pancake. maybe a pancake/waffle station would be good. It was nice to have the characters come to your table so you could just enjoy yourself and not worry about tracking the characters down. The staff at the restaurant did a good job in making sure the characters went to each table and did not rush our time with them. The waitstaff was also very good. Everyone at the Aulani were always ready with a smile for you and willing to give directions or helpful hints for our stay there. It was nice that although checkout was 11:00 a. you still have guest privileges until midnight the day of your check out . The bell service can keep your luggage and there is a room with couches and TVs and locker rooms where you can store your valuables and showers you can use before you leave. Would totally stay there again! Just another awesome Disney experience! Disney sure knows how to get it right even miles away in Hawaii!

Aulani, a Disney Resort & Spa is one of the best resorts I have had the honor of visiting. Every attention to detail has been included. Disney Imagineers have done an incredible job of incorporating Hawaiian culture in every aspect of the resort. The resort is a great place for honeymooners, aniiversaries, or familiies. There are activites for all age groups and most activities are included with your stay. Some require an additional fee. Overall, an icredible stay! Disney at its best!

Room Tip: Be wary of paying extra for "an ocean view: room. While the ocean is visible from the rooms, th...

We visited Aulani in July 2012, a family of 4. I have mixed feelings about this resort - some things were great, some were disappointing.

POSITIVE:
This resort is new, it is super clean and the staff is friendly. We loved our 2 bedroom suite, it was clean and spacious with a nice kitchenette.

There are multiple pools and jacuzzi's on the premises and all were very clean. We would see staff come and take water samples and test it for quality frequently. There were lots and lots of lifeguards around the pool as well as security. That made us feel very safe. All guests were required to wear Aulani bracelets, and I have seen security escorting people off the premises if someone was not wearing one.

The beach was wonderful, although it is much more crowded now than when we were there a few years ago, before Aulani was built. The water is calm and warm and the sand is very soft and yellow. It is located on a more secluded and laid back part of the island.

The kids club "Auntie's Beach House" was fantastic! The security setup there was phenomenal. Each child had to wear a tracking device that also contained information with the room number and parents' names and contact information. All visitors were required to wash their hands upon arrival. Everybody had to be buzzed in when coming/going - the doors would not open otherwise. Each child had their own password required for both drop off and pickup. There were multiple rooms with different games, activities, arts and crafts, movie theater, toys, and outside play for every type of a child. My kids really enjoyed their time at Auntie's beach house.

NEGATIVE:
GETTING A ROOM - Our room was not available upon our arrival. Kids were very tired from a 5-hour flight from California, and my younger one was falling asleep because he missed his nap. First (around 1pm) we were told the room would be ready by 3pm. At 3pm they told us it will be ready at 4pm. We ended up getting a room only around 4:20pm, which was unreasonably late.

BRACELETS - every day of your stay you had to get a new bracelets. You could not be in the pool area without one. We had to stand in line to get the towels and the bracelets every day. That was a bit annoying.

FOOD - the food was good, but the service was very slow. It took us 1.5 hours to have breakfast. The snack bar was good, but it was very overpriced. Kids would get hungry around noon and we would typically order (from the kids' menu) a mini burger, a veggie wrap, and 2 smoothies - that would cost us $50 every day.

CHARACTER BREAKFAST - I don't recommend it. You take a family picture with Mickey Mouse first. Then you go to a breakfast buffet, pick your food and wait for one of the other Disney Characters to come over and take a photo with you. Kids finished eating in 5 mins, and then we were basically sitting and waiting for some character to stop by for another 30+ mins. The characters they had were Minnie Mouse and Goofy, that's it... It cost $100 for a family of 4 plus the picture with Mickey - another $35. Not worth it, in my opinion.

LIMITED SUPPLIES - I was very disappointed that the resort kept running out of supplies, like beach umbrellas, beach chairs, inner tubes, etc.

Overall, we had a good time, but I would not go back to this resort. The value is not there. You pay Disney premium for not a whole lot of Disney. The night entertainment was very disappointing. One thing I do recommend is their Coral Reef and Sting Ray experience. It's something they have on the premises and is very enjoyable and interesting for the kids.

Jus returned today dec 8,2012 from a week at Aulani. Stunning resort, amazing people there! Safe for kids, slides, lazy river aunties beach house and events all day long for kids of all ages. Amazing bay for swimming, playing paddle boarding and more. Killer little bay in front of Marriott where we watched Hawaiian monk seals sleep on beach and stood in water w sea turtles!
Oahu is a zoo but this gem is on dry side of island and a perfect place to sit around and feel like you're on you own tropical island!

Spent 6 days, 5 nights at Aulani the first week of November. Beautiful resort. Very impressed with the cultural theme throughout the entire resort. Disney did this right and was respectful to the Hawaiian culture. My husband, myself and our two teen daughters enjoyed our stay very much. We stayed in a two bedroom villa with full kitchen, full size appliances, oven, stove, refrigerator, stackable washer and dryer. Utensils and pots and pans and a dishwasher. Full master suite with master bath and soaking jet tub. The secondary bedroom had two full size beds (could have been queens) full bath. Looks just like the photographs posted on their web page. Two balconies overlooking the garden where we watched a Disney movie from the balcony and a luau on another night. Cooked breakfast and dinner in the suite. Saved $$$$$$ on food. Shopped at the local Smith's the night we arrived and were set for the week. Disney did this resort right. There is just enough "Disney" represented so children enjoy their stay as well as adults traveling without children. The "upscale" restaurant we ate at on one evening was very pricey and was the only time we ate out. They had just changed the menu and isn't very kid meal friendly. They do have chicken strips, hot dogs along with french fries, hamburgers, Hawaiian ice, ice cream, etc. for purchase at pool side dining restaurants and pool side service. Beach toys are available for the young ones, (pails, sand shovels, sand toys) and boogie boards are available for guests free of charge. We rented a kayak and they have paddle boards for rent also. The friendliest staff. Very well trained, courtious. The weather was perfect as the resort is on the dry side of the island. There is plenty to do and see and everyone was so friendly. I was impressed that while we were swimming in the pool that there are attendants watching over the lounge chairs and would replace your wet towels while you were gone with dry clean towels and lay them over the back of the lounge chair without disturbing your things. They also have a activites/tours that you can pay for like horseback riding, surf lessons, hiking excursions, etc. Would definitely go back.

Room Tip: I don't think you could go wrong with any room really. You could get an ocean view, garden view...
