We have been to Hawaii (all islands) several times but this was our first time in Ko Olina. We like Waikiki but did not want to stay there for 2 full weeks. This place seemed like it might be the perfect place to stay on Oahu. For us it was! This villa is beautiful, spacious, and has a great layout for sharing with friends or family. The bedrooms with en-suites are on opposite sides with the large living / dining / kitchen in the middle. As mentioned in other reviews the lanais on each end of the living space made the temperature very comfortable. Everything was spotless when we arrived and the owners are very easy to communicate with and quick to respond to any concerns. The property is beautiful and there are 4 beaches / lagoons to choose from (this property is in front of lagoon 2). The lagoons made swimming very safe and I could see how this would be a perfect spot if you have young children. We felt Ko Olina itself was a good location; 30min from Waikiki, 30 min from North Shore, a few minutes away from all the shopping you'll need (costco, safeway, target, etc). You definitely need car but then unless you are staying right in Waikiki for a few days and don't plan on doing anything else, you really need a car regardless of where you stay on any of the islands imo. This was exactly what we were looking for. If I was to have one wish it would be to have a BBQ on the lanai - the BBQ area by the pool was great though and it gave you an opportunity to meet other people.

Stayed with family of 6 in June. We rented 3 br condo in ocean tower which was just outside the family pool. Photos from other travelers were spot on so I don't have anything unique to post. Inside and outside the property was very new, clean and used high end materials. The beach area is a man-made protected cove which made it ideal for families like ours with small kids. The downside of the protected cove is that snorkeling was poor and no waves for boogie boarding. Having said that, there is nice snorkeling beach <1 mile north of the property. Parking was included in our rental which we did through Hawaiian airlines (eg there was no resort fee or other hidden fees awaiting us at checkout). Limited restaurants in the area which we heard were expensive so we skipped them and ate mostly in our condo or when we were out exploring the area. Island Market (aka ABC mart) was easy walking distance from condo with decent prices, but Costco and Walmart are only about a 10 minute drive and best places to stock up on food/beverages.

Two downsides of the property. Underground parking was extremely tight depending on the space that comes with your condo. I was driving a minivan and it was a pain (I highly recommend you back in if assigned a tight space, because getting out is even harder depending on who parks next to you in garage.

Last but not least, let me address the HOA security staff referred by some previous posters as the "green shirts" that run around the property. The property is well kept and so there are lots of staff walking around picking up, etc. Never said anything to us and I thought the previous posters had unique experiences.....until our last day at the resort. We were on the ground floor outside the family pool area and there is a gate which allows access from pool area to condos on 1st floor. We had just returned from pool and were sitting around the table outside drying off. We had our towels hung over the chairs while sitting there. Not 10 minutes passed when one of the green shirts (seemed to be scruffy redish haired guy with beard) leans over the railing and reminds us to take our towels in with us when we go inside because the "owners don't like them hanging around"). My wife and I were shocked. We had never left the area with towels on them and didn't intend to, yet this rent-a-cop took it upon himself to lecture us.

Not willing to let this slide, I walked straight to the front desk and asked for the manager and explained the situation and that I had heard about this before we left on trip advisor and was disappointed to find out that the rumors of HOA harassment were true. To her credit she (Karen) noted that the green shirt in question did in fact work for the home owners security team and agreed to call his supervisor to report this. She also noted that it was ironic that the very unit we rented was owned by one of the owners that pay for the green shirts. Either way, this experience soured me on the resort and there are many other alternatives at this pricepoint on the island.

BTW, we are also a very low key family even with a large number of kids. I had read some posters complaining about being told to leave pool after closing hours which is actually a good idea. It is worth noting that this is a pretty quiet family and retiree type of place. So if you're wanting to come and party, I don't think this is the place for you.

The room was so nice! The view was of the ocean and we were able to see part of the sunset. We had 3 bedrooms and 2.5 baths which was a good size for 3 couples. Kitchen was well equipped, the only thing we missed was a BBQ on the balcony. You need to go to the common area outside to use one of the 4 BBQs. I love that the beach was just a few minutes from the room and the lagoon we swam in had some nice snorkeling spots! The pool area wasn't exciting, but it was a nice quiet spot to relax and cool off. This is a great spot for couples or families. Relaxing and beautiful!

This was a wonderful hotel. Very well taken care of! My only issue is that the slide that they have at the pool closed really early and the place were you can grab towels did as well. Other wise it was great. The valet was awesome even though it was $30 a day. The room was always nicely taken care of. The lagoons are really nice and there's a nice jogging path that runs past all three and you can see the other hotels in the area that way.

We just got back from a week long stay here (booked through a vacation rental site) in a ground floor 3 bedroom. We were a group of two families, each with a toddler, and the stay could not have been more convenient and enjoyable for our vacation needs. The kitchen was great to cook in, the kiddie pool area was well designed to let our toddlers enjoy while we could keep a close eye on them but not have to hold them every second, the lagoon/beach was perfect for little ones as well, and the lanai was fantastic! We loved that we were walking distance from our luau at the Marriott and from our Disney breakfast at the Aulani (as well as a little adult break getaway for the spa at Aulani) and of course, from the beach. We would definitely stay here again. I am generally not the most critical about vacations (it is hard to be grumpy on vacation) but this stay certainly exceeded our expectations! :)

Room Tip: Ground floor was great for little kids to run around outside!
