“Serene”

The temple is situated at the foot of the beautiful Koolau mountains. So scenic and peaceful. Lot of people take their wedding photos here.

“Peaceful”
Reviewed January 31, 2013

Although you have to pay to get in, it's a very serene place to spend some time in Kaneohe. The temple itself is very pretty, but the surroundings are breathtaking. You can come into the temple to meditate, or feed the ducks & geese outside. Lots of great photo ops!

“Temple of Tranquility”
Reviewed January 24, 2013

Not really a touristy destination, but once you enter the peaceful temple grounds in the Valley of the Temples Memorial Park, you are glad its not well promoted. Byodo-In Temple is a replica of the over 950-year-old Byodo-in Temple, a U. N. World Heritage Site in Uji, Japan. The lushly landscaped gardens include koi ponds and waterfalls. Wild peacocks wander as you hear the sound of the temple bell. Bring your camera and enjoy the tranquility so far removed from the crowds of Waikiki. The $3 admission fee ($1 for children) is well worth it.

“serene and scenic”

after a couple of hours at the beautiful Ho' omaluhia botanical gardens, we drove on to byodo-in- temple in the valley of temples...entered the temple grounds after a small entry fee of $3. rang the 3 ton peace bell and admired the koi ponds, the black swans and the tame birds before entering the temple with its 18ft Buddha covered in gold leaves.. the temple is an exact scaled replica of the 900 year old Fuji Temple in Japan. It was completed in 1968 to commemorate the first Japanese immigrants arrival to Hawaii. not a single nail has been used in the construction...The temple and grounds are as peaceful as they are picturesque. the gift shop has lovely but pricey artifacts

“Different”
Reviewed January 20, 2013 via mobile

With the mountains around, I could have sworn I was in China or Japan or something! The misty mountains in the background were awesomely Asian. A kind man who worked there took a photo of me there - my husband was sitting in the car with a bad hip. The koi were amazingly abundant and black swans a novelty. It is a worthy side trip. Some of the gravestones are unique as well.
