Nice hawaiian hostess, good service, fast, delicate and informative, plus the food was very good, even better than what de menu description suggests.

Thank Mathieu P

The original Haleiwa Joe's is on the North shore in..."Haleiwa" by the water. It's nice. But THIS one is different! First of all, you drive up what seems to be a residential street and it ends at Haleiwa Joe's! The setting seems like it stepped out of the movie South Pacific! You are immediately transported (beginning at the parking lot) into a jungle! The AMAZING Banyan trees (also known as "fig-less figs") will take your breath away, just feet before you enter the restuarant! When you walk in, be prepared to catch your breath as the "open sided" restuarant shows off the pristine placement of Haleiwa Joe's! Open below are the grounds for receptions or events that make you feel you are on a deserted island, to the majestic mountain scape in front of you! That's not even the menu yet! While they are known for their PRIME RIB, which you will NEVER believe it until you see it(!)... I chose the fresh Opah, Cajun blackened grilled fish, in a white wine onion and caper sauce with an avocado-mango salsa on top! PERFECTION! We added the baked escargot, which was also magnificent! They were sold OUT of their Prime Rib by the time we ordered, but the table next to us got the last available for the day! Each piece that went by us was EASILY at least 2 inches thick, took the ENTIRE plate and looked fabulous! My husband had the filet, which he said was one of the best he'd ever eaten! But the one that smelled and looked even better...the incredible New York steak peppercorn crusted and flaming cognac sauce!! The desserts...you won't believe either...are different. HUGE...so you can share (if you have room!) and ...d e l i c i o u s! We live by the beach. We love the beach, but it was also wonderful to enjoy the tropical jungle setting of the island as we dined! No windows which means no A/C, but we didn't need it!

The atmosphere was incredible- tiki torches and tasteful decor set the mood perfectly. My boyfriend ordered the fresh ahi steak dish and it was the best fish I've ever tasted. My ginger chicken salad was not show-stopping but the coconut shrimp was delicious! Prime rib is their other specialty. It's literally the best prime rib money can buy. They start cooking it in the morning so by the time you get it its extremely tender and melts in your mouth. Plus, the meat portion is so big you could definitely split it between two people.

I hesitated to write this review because this is really a restaurant for locals, but being here has been such an amazing experience that I have to share.
A Hawaiian friend who now lives in New York told me about his old neighborhood Hoku Gardens and specifically recommended Haleiwa Joe's. I am grateful that he did.
Contrary to Waikiki establishments where one is seen as a dollar (or yen) sign, this restaurants treated us like guests from start to finish. The location is gorgeous with a view to an amazing garden having a mountain as background. The staff is efficient and pleasant, a rare combination. Because we are on high elevation, the temperature is pleasant and there is no need for a/c. The food is delicious, with strong Hawaiian influence. Our party had steak, fish and shrimp and all were happy.
If you want to leave Waikiki's tourist zone and see how the locals enjoy paradise, just come. It is worth the drive.

We visited Haleiwa Joe's on Haiku Rd. in Kaneohe (this is NOT the Haleiwa location on the North Shore) for the Sunday brunch ($24.95 person), drinks extra. What makes this a "hot spot" for dining is the atmosphere for sure. Since this is Hawaii and everything is expensive, we found that the price was justified for the dining experience. The restaurant is beautiful, located off the beaten path, but BEAUTIFUL. The Sunday bunch buffet had good variety, and this restaurant is known for their prime rib. The food was fresh, (omelet station) tasty and well presented. Since it was a buffet type bunch, service was limited, but the server was there to refill water glasses and pick up plates. The restaurant opens at 10:00 AM for the Sunday brunch and there was a long line to get in. Since we were with another couple, we stayed and talked for 2 1/2 hours. By 11:30 to 12:00 the crowd diminished and many tables were available. No lines to get in. So get there by (9:50 Am or after 11:45 AM to 12:00 PM for a good seat. Party of four with 3 alcoholic type drinks (2 Mimosa's and 1 Bloody Mary) bill was $119.00....tip +$20.00 or total of $139.00. Go with a good appetite otherwise, the cost is not worth it; if your a small eater. Enjoy the Sunday brunch. I can't make any other comments on lunch or dinner, because we saw no menu items or prices. I would guess however that all food entrees are expensive, it's just the nature of Hawaii fine dining. Seating is covered, yet open air dining in a beautiful garden setting.
