Owner description: Kailua Beach Adventures(KBA) is the most complete water sports outfitters by Kailua Beach. Specializing in guided kayak tours, kayak rentals, snorkeling, stand-up-paddling, boogie boards, surfing and bike rentals, KBA looks to share their 'stoke' for the ocean. As one of the only companies allowed to hold permits to kayak to the Mokulua "Twin Islands" and Flat Island, the choice is clear. The pro-shop carries all of the latest brands of sunglasses, UV-Shirts and beach accessories, and is located 100 yards from Kailua Beach Park. Free parking, showers and dressing rooms are available on site. Open 7 days/week from 8:00 am to 5:00 pm, including Holidays. No Kayak Rentals or Island Tours are permitted in Kailua on Sundays but we do rent paddle boards and all other equipment.

Rented windsurf boards and told them we were beginners. Surf was minimal near the shop, but pretty high downwind (the direction you are most likely to go). My girlfriend scrapped up her leg pretty bad dragging her board through the surf, and were stuck about a half mile down the beach. Left the gear, and returned to the shop to get our car. when she was trying to clean out her wound at the shop, one of the staff suggested that it was more important that we get the gear back on time (pretty offensive).

They knew the surf was bad that direction; seems like basic information that would have been easy to tell us. Finally after working as fast as we could to unrig the gear, and return it, we got the boards back half an hour late. About 5 angry staff were standing around upset because they had to stay late (don't know why just one person couldn't stay). We appologized, and returned the gear.

A couple of days later they charged a $120 late fee. I understand that it's my responsibility to return stuff on time, but we woudn't have gotten stranded downwind in heavy surf if they had told us not to go in that direction up front. Very bad experience overall.
