“A nice, simple B&B”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed March 5, 2010

My daughter and I were in Kailua visiting my boys who go to college there and we wanted a simple place to stay in the evenings--Papaya Paradise was it. If you are looking for clean, simple and friendly faces (Bob and Jeanette) then this is your ticket. The only drawback is that in order to keep it simple and quiet, no outside guests were allowed. At times it would have been nice to sit by the pool with my other kids, but I understand the reasoning behind it.
They were very nice and I would stay there again. We especially liked the movie options available at the end of a long day on the nice flat screen tv. If you like the Breakers in Waikiki (which we do!) you will like this.

This was our fourth stay at Papaya Paradise. The owners are helpful with information
about Kailua and Oahu but not intrusive. The amenities are attractive , clean and inviting
especially the swimming pool and the breakfast area. It is an easy walk to the beach
and to town but far away from the frantic pace of Waikiki. An ideal location to enjoy
the beauty of Lanikai and Kailua as well as wind surfing, kite-boarding and
kayaking. We also enjoy walking and running on the beach early in the morning.
Clean up after the beach trips is easily accomplished because of the lovely
bathroom and lots of towels. The only difficutly that we've had is that they are
usually booked well in advance.

Bob and Jeannette have two guest rooms on a quiet residential street about half a mile from the center of Kailua and from the beach. The room was perfectly fine - not luxurious, but exactly the kind of guest room a thoughtful relative would set up for guests in their home. There were three small dressers and a double closet with shelving in our room and a large bathroom with everything we needed. On this and other points, I disagree with the previous review from Munich.

We slept great without the AC and with the windows open. This being Hawaii, the windows are louvred for airflow so you can hear everything going on outside, which is usually a songbird symphony. If other guests were making noise while we were sleeping, I would hope that the hosts would ask them to keep the noise down. If you're loud and want to party late at night, you should stay at a hotel, not a private B&B.

I liked the self-service breakfast since it allowed us to go by our own schedule. Bob's morning coffee is outstanding.

Bob and Jeannette are interesting folks and we enjoyed getting to know them a little. I have the feeling they take their cues from the guests about how much or little to interact. It's one of the reasons we stay in small B&Bs and we enjoyed the little time we spent chatting. As for them always being there, IT'S THEIR HOME!! The visitors from Munich should stay at a hotel next time. Their review is innacurate and irrelevant if you are used to small B&Bs.

This place has 2 very tiny rooms to offer with not enough space to store the clothes so everything has to be kept in suitcases on the floor. (If you don't have much stuff you'll be fine. )The rooms are very clairaudient so that you can listen to every single word of the guests next door. It's like if they are in the same room. Due to that reason the owner is always around and tells you to be quiet. Only whispering is allowed. While having breakfast the owner is around, too. One day when we prepared it he told has that he needs to stay by the toilet since he had to do a coloscopy. After that he showd us the liquid he had to drink to clear him up. This not what you want to know before breakfast and not from someone you don't know.
So in total the value for the money was bad. The room cost as much as a hotel room but here you have no rigthts. You can't sleep due to the noise and the missing curtains to keep the room dark at night (you have the light of the neighbors rooms) and day.
In winter times it's not to hot so we didn't use the aircondition in the room but we had the noise from the a/c of the room next door. So it's absolutely necessary to use earplugs.
From time to time yard people need to do their work in the garden which I understand and while we were there this needed to be done in this place and the neighbors, too. This noise is a real pain....Not to forget 11 am is Check- Out and not 1 minute later. They are really after you....
So I would recommand to book a hotelroom or another B&B where more privacy is guaranteed.

My wife and I had a great time for the few days we stayed with Bob and Jeanette at their B&B. The room is attached to their private home, but not in the home. Private access through driveway/breezeway. The room was everything that you want in a nice B&B. Quiet, off the main road, safe, Bob and Jeanette were gracious hosts, not overbearing and just attentive enough. We had access to our own kitchen, and could use the swimming pool in the private yard. High speed internet provided, as well as DVD player. Bed was comfortable, shower and bathroom worked fine, no bugs, and within walking distance to the beach and town.. No complaints and would happily go back again if we were headed that way.

We spent four nights in Papaya Paradise B&B. The house is located in a residential area. Away from the crowds in Honolulu but not too far away - 30 minutes by car. We booked the room which is directly at the pool. It was clean and really lovely. Coffee was cooked by the hosts, there were bagels, creamcheese, jelly, cereals, milk. We could use the toaster, mikrowaveoven, fridge and enjoyed breakfast on the lanai. There were also a lot of information about the area. We also could use boogieboards and beach towels. We will definitely stay again in Papaya Paradise if we come back to Oahu!

We thought the location was ideal..... away from the hustle and bustle of Honolulu and city traffic. The house is in a quiet neighborhood nicely landscaped with a good size pool steps from our door. We were in Unit 2 which is slightly smaller from Unit 1 and farther from the main house. We had full use of the breakfast area with full size refrigerator that both units shared. The covered back patio is huge with all kinds of brochures and maps displayed on a table for guest use. Our unit had tile floors, 2 twin beds, TV, small table with 2 chairs and a nice size bathroom and vanity. The closet had mirror doors that slide open from side to side and had plenty of hanging and shelf space. The unit was so comfortable, tastefully decorated, excellent condition and spotless. My favorite were the windows made of frosted glass that cranked open with 4 inch rows. Though air conditioned, we kept it off to enjoy the tropical breezes at night and occasional tropical rains. It was so peaceful. The host and hostess were so gracious and provided outstanding service. We could not have picked a better place. We look forward to our next visit!
