As soon as you step onto the lanai, Bob & Jeanette take care of you. The tucked-away setting - quiet room, pretty pool & yard, handy breakfast area with refrigerator - offers just what is needed for a restful vacation. The easy neighborhood stroll to the ocean is a very nice distance for stretching your legs before or after a lazy (or busy) day at the beach. Bob and Jeanette are ready with a great story or tips for enjoying Kailua, yet they are unobtrusive and make it very easy to relax. My stay at Papaya Paradise was one of the very favorite parts of my first trip to Hawaii.

If you are looking for a quaint, quiet, relaxing retreat away from the busyness and commercialism of Waikiki, this is definitely the place for you. Bob and Jeannette, the owners, have been running the establishment for over 25 years, and are without a doubt the some of the nicest hosts we've ever come across. Although you have your own room and bath, you have a lovely back yard, pool, and lanai. There's a place to keep snacks, and continental breakfast is provided (which we augmented with fresh pineapple...yum!). Kailua is central to everything, but is easy walking and driving and you can readily get what you need or want in more "normal" shopping that's a whole lot cheaper than waikiki. It was simply a good place to be.

Our Room was clean, perfectly functional and very well equipped. We had a nice view, a beautiful pool, coolers, body boards, restaurant guides and more! We felt our selves very welcome and homelike. With the quietly located B&B being close to the beautiful beach park in Kailua we were just perfectly happy, not only because the action of Waikiki is just a 10 miles drive away. Nothing is missing here to find perfect relaxation, watersport options, nightlife, nature and more... .

Thank you again, Bob & Jeanette! All the best to you and hopefully I will be able to see you soon again.

Here's the best way I can put it: our plan was to visit Oahu first, then go to Kauai next year, then Maui, etc. But after staying for a week at Papaya Paradise, we are seriously thinking about simply going back to Kailua again, and staying here.

Here's another way of putting it: don't you wish you had parents who moved to Hawaii, and that you could visit them, and ask them for tips about the local area, and stay in your own private "wing" of the house, and hang out on a spacious lanai - but without feeling like you had to do the vacuuming, or badly about going off and doing your own thing for the day? That's how it felt to us: like staying with family, only without the psychic baggage and obligations.

Specifics: the room was immaculate, the lanai spacious, and the continental breakfast in line with local B&B regulations. If you absolutely must have a big breakfast, drive the five minutes to Cinnamon's and get their $6.95 "Start A Nice Day" special with french toast, egg, and bacon, and pretend Papaya Paradise costs $107 a night rather than $100. Still a fantastic deal.

Bob and Jeanette have a huge and well-landscaped backyard, but I am sure the easily moveable safety fence around the pool is to ensure that kids next door (who I saw but never heard) don't fall in. If you want a pool surrounded by beach chairs and concrete go stay in a megahotel in Waikiki.

What else... Bob and Jeanette were the most prompt in responding to email inquiries about availability. Also, since we were also going to Hanauma Bay before we checked in the first day, they offered (we didn't even ask) to let us drop our bags in the morning before heading off to snorkeling, which basically let us add a day to our vacation.

Bob and Jeanette: if you're reading this, thanks again for the most relaxing vacation my wife and I have ever had, and we will see you again soon.

Large bedroom , Comfortable to sleep in, more than 2 adults would be crowded. No view from the room. Open door and walk out nice view of the mountains, pleasant landscaping and the small in ground pool is there. A moveable fence surrounds the pool making it uninviting. We did not use the pool. Nice large bathroom with jalousie window that opens but making the room less private. Large walk in shower. We used this location as a place to sleep and to explore other areas of the island away from the traffic of Waikiki. We stayed to sleep, shower and left all day returning late afternoon to go out to eat. Not a bad place to relax and do nothing if that is your style but your host, while well meaning, are a little intrusive. There is a line of windows adjacent to the porch or lanai, so if you are sitting out there, and they are home, you will meet face to face. They are knowledgable and have lots of suggestions to eat at. We drove to the beach to explore, the walk seemed too far for a short excursion.
The town is small, lots of restaurants, some shopping but everything closes at dark except Starbucks and maybe one or two other places. Spring for the grocery store or the good quality bake shop in town, 5 min. drive, vs the host “breakfast” open and or left over from prior guests. Like being home. You can store items in the fridge in the common area. We avoided the items except the coffee that was offered. I would not return if I ever return to Oahu but the main reason would be I would want to experience something else. The table service Italian restaurant in town, fantastic. Overall, reasonable price, clean convenient. Best to use as a base to go and explore other parts of the island.
