“We loved this place - you will too”
Reviewed July 9, 2014

Kalapawai Cafe was wonderful. We ate dinner here three time during our short stay on Lanikai and we loved it each time. The gourmet food is wonderful, the staff is friendly and helpful, and the atmosphere is comfortable.

We started with some fine locally made beer. Then appetizers such as soup, bruschetta and ravioli. The tomato bisque with sugar snap peas was delicious. Our favorite bruschetta was the one with the eggplant confit, sweet peppers and basil aioli. The delicious Okinawan sweet potato ravioli made a nice appetizer to share, and was very colorful with its purple filling. The entree's were just as good- there are nightly specials of fish or meat dishs plus regular menu items. These were deliciously prepared and attractively presented.

Great coffee and desert too.

All in all a very enjoyable experience. And we thought very reasonably priced compared to what we would have paid in a crowded Waikiki restaurant that was half as good.

This is a small restaurant and can fill fast. We did well arriving just as dinner service started.

“Quality Food and Drink”
Reviewed July 7, 2014

The food and drink though pricey was quality product. Everything was fresh, hot, and made to order. They had lots of choices for coffee and breakfast choices. The staff was friendly (full of smiles, suggestions and patience) and quick. They had two options for eat in; a small area in the back and a larger side area outside.

“Great Lunch Stop”
Reviewed July 6, 2014

Met my wife at the Kalapawai Cafe for lunch. It was my first time there and the menu selections were all quite appealing. I ordered the Kailua Club sandwich and my wife had the curried chicken salad and an ear of corn from the deli. Everything was good. There is outdoor seating which was quite comfortable even though the cafe borders busy Kailua Road. Staff was very friendly. Parking is a bit limited.

“Beer, wine and good local food”
Reviewed June 9, 2014

This little cafe & restaurant is the best place in Kailua to have a good taste experience for a reasonable price. Outsides tables are calms and excellent to enjoy the perfect temperature of hawaiian weather. Every month they have a special wine list, presented during a free wine taste: this is a wonderful extra. The best dish here is De Geevum, a delicious wagyu beef burger, served perfectly as we asked. We tried also the Auction fresh fish with lemongrass risotto. It was a Onu, really fresh and medium spiced, good done, the only problem was the risotto too cooked and soft for the official risotto standard's. Tapenade quartet with pita and olives is the best way to enjoy a little plate. The dessert was also really good: a burberry hot cake with a vanilla ice cream topping. There is a good choice of wines and beers for a right price. A place you can't lose in Kailua.
