“Heavenly Beach - not so heavenly parking”
Reviewed January 25, 2013

This is one of the most beautiful beaches in the world, perhaps the one other beaches are measured by. Yes, parking is hard to find. I usually park 2 blocks up at the very end of the loop road. be sure to stow all your gear in the trunk. I usually take a waterproof camera, my car keys and a towel. The sand here is white and very small, not like most tan sesame sand O'ahu beaches. The water is warm and calm here, perfect for swimmers of all ages. I usually go during the week, since the weekends can be quite crowded. Stop at Kailua Beach Park first to use the restroom facilities, since there are none at Lanikai. The beach is definitely eroding in some areas. Once you find your spot, lay out your towel, and take in the view of the two islands in the azure blue water and white sand, you will find your moment of zen!

“small beautiful beach”

We really enjoyed watching the kids on the outrigger canoes at their afternoon practice. The beach has no facilities and you must be careful parking off the bike lane.

“vanishing beach”
Reviewed January 23, 2013

As the ocean levels rise worldwide, Lanikai Beach is slowly disappearing. It's beautiful during the week, but on weekends it is overflowing with people. The snorkeling is pretty good--lots of coral--but currents are sometimes strong. I love it anyway.

“Beautiful Beach, but lacks parking and amenities. Also, my car got broken into while parked there.”
Reviewed January 22, 2013

It is a beautiful beach, and because we heard it was so beautiful we decided to stop by there before heading home at around 3:30 pm. I was tired since we had been to two different beach site that day, but my wife was ecstatic that we check it out. Unfortunately, we let our guard down as we had not encountered any crime up til then. We naively left our bags in the rental car, and headed to the beach to take a few photos with our smart phones. We figured our car was parked in a nice residential area in broad daylight. When we came back from taking a few photos 20 mins later, someone had smashed our driverside window. Two out of three bags were missing. One of the bags had my wife's wallet which had her ids and other cards. That was a traumatic experience. Hawaii is beautiful, but do not put your guard down. Do NOT leave valuables in your car. Ensure that bags are away from plain sight. Bring only what you need when going to the beach, so that if you are prey to theft, it will not ruin your vacation. Keep your valuables with you or locked up. Keep security in mind as you travel.

The policewoman who took our police report was cordial and showed emphathy for our dismay. Her advice was that we are safe and healthy and that we should not let this ruin our vacation. We are also wiser and now aware of the problem of car breakins and theft.
