Time your visit for low tide (Google: Kailua Tides) if you want to walk (it's just easier). It takes about 1 1/2 hours to do the whole bay end to end. There are 3 bathrooms along the way. Or--just bring your chair and a book. There is shade in places. Lots of great people watching. Crowded on weekends as can be expected--it's the best beach on the island!

I have been to this beach more than any other one on Oahu... the state is great about making sure the sand get replenished when storms erode it away. Kailua has good winds for kite surfing and on most days water is calm enough to do stand up paddling as well as swimming and kayaking. What is fun for the kids is jumping off the boat dock. The park around the beach and the 3 restroom areas are clean and safe... Parking can be very much a challenge... Highly recommend this beach and it is good for walking all around the perimeter.

This is the Hawaii beach you visualize in your mind. Beautiful long stretch of sand. There is shade if you need it. Stand up paddle/kayak rentals nearby. Beautiful views with turquoise water.

Small parking area means very few visitors can come to this beach. The sand is the good white powdery stuff you come to expect from a good beach. On a weekday, there were still kids running amok. BYO everything... no vendors nearby to get your beverages, food, towels, etc.

This beach is expansive and covers a large area for recreation. If you want the public beach feel with a lot of activity buzzing around you, this is the place for you. If you go 5 minutes down the road you can find Lanikai beach for a more private peaceful walk and dip.
