“Almost your own private beach”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed March 16, 2013

Easy public access. Park in the nearby residential neighborhood. Avoid weekends--gets busy. Located near where the Obama's vacationed in 2012. Enjoy surfing, para sailing, or simply relaxing on the clean white sand.

“2nd best beach in all Hawaii.”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed March 15, 2013

Soft, powdery white sand. Lined with palm trees. No hotels in sight. No body-to-body crowds. This is a tropical paradise. The best beach in all of Hawaii is just down the road at Lanikai Beach. However, Kailua Beach is easier to get to and has a big parking lot too. If you go on a weekend, it might look as crowded as Waikiki, but don't get discouraged. Just walk down the beach away from the beach park, and you'll discover wide open spaces. This is a residential area, so during the week everybody's at work and you'll have the beach to yourself. The water here is a little rougher than at Lanikai, but still calm compared to other spots. If you're looking for a really safe spot for the kids to swim, you might choose Lanikai. But Kailua Beach is bigger than Lanikai...more sand, a much better choice for a long walk on the beach.

“Great Beach Park on Windward Oahu”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed March 10, 2013

On windy days, watch the kite boarders and wind surfers do amazing things! Take your body board and surf the small shore break! Walk for ever from one end to the other. And when you are done, shower off the sand and salt in the outside shower. Close to a great deli (2 minute walk from Kalapawai Market) or a fancy "tourist restaurant" (Buzz's) or bring your own plate lunch or BBQ and use the picnic tables.

“Erosion”
2 of 5 bubbles Reviewed March 4, 2013

The beach is almost gone and you had to step down a steep drop through soft sand. Not much beach left but the water is nice and has a sandy bottom.

“Nice beach, unfortunately eroded badly!”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed March 4, 2013

W spent about 30-45 minutes at this beach, due to the fact it was quite scattered with tree branches , sticks and coral. It is also quite a shallow sandy beach area sadly due to a possible tropical storm or just natural erosion.

They seemed to be working on the beach at the time as well with some large machinery adding fresh sand to rebuild the beach area.

I am sure it will be absolutely beautiful again once complete. Still worth the trip for sure!
