“A long walk for a pretty small waterfall”
Reviewed July 29, 2013

Maunawili Falls gets a bunch of play in the guidebooks, but in reality it is nothing more than a swimming hole with a small waterfall trickling down the side of the hill. On most weekends, it can be crazy crowded with a mix of locals, military and tourists which can be combustible given the amount of alcohol folks hike in. The water quality is dubious at best and the trail is absolutely to be avoided if there is any rain as flash flooding is a common problem there.

“Great hiking experience!”
Reviewed June 13, 2013 via mobile

I've done this hike the past three years! It's always an adventure, a challenge as well as just plain fun! Bring water, bug spray & be prepared to get your feet wet & muddy. The sights & the beauty are well worth the wet, muddy shoes! This hike has lots of protruding tree roots & requires hiking up & back down a series of man-made steps. It also requires crossing the creek numerous times. If taking small children, be prepared to carry them. Strollers are a no go!

This was a great hike! The falls and pool at the end were well worth the treck. You have to jump in from the rocks. the fresh water is a nice break from the salt water if you spend a lot of time in the ocean during your trip. You have to cross the creek 3 times during the hike, but you can make it across without getting your feet wet by strategically jumping some rocks. Otherwise you will get your feet wet. The trail can be muddy, so plan on going when there hasn't been much rain, or if you want to get muddy, wait for the rain :) there is a lot of shade as well, so this is a nice break from the heat if you are sun burnt. do it! Also, it's free!

“Maybe good on a perfect day”
Reviewed May 6, 2013 via mobile

Went there on a rainy day, slippery and muddy and pretty long walk but in the end you'll find a waterfall. The tracks will sometime split and lead you out of nowhere if you don't pay attention. I found out that if you keep you have two choices, choose the LEFT ONE! The waterfall is small and today it was all brown because of the rain. Travellers leave all kind of stuff there, hoping for it to magically disappear. Rule one, bring back all the things you bring with you!! Over there you can find several socks, plastic bottles, pair of shoes, cigarettes, diaper and more. Don't be stupid, there's no god, you make your own luck and you bring back all the [--] you brought with you.

“Beautiful ending”
Reviewed April 28, 2013

This was a nice hike. Muddy at times to be prepared. You need mosquito repellent. It has stairs which could be difficult for shorter people. The waterfall at the end is a great picture. You can climb up some rocks and jump into the pool below, or you can just cool off in the pool. Very crowded on a weekend.
