“Friendly nature walk for all”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed April 10, 2013 via mobile

This is a great little nature walk for the entire family, dogs included. It is a dog friendly park, or at least I assume so since there are dog waste bags provided at the entrance. My wife is pregnant so she can't do any of the difficult hikes that oahu is known for, but this one was perfect for her. It starts off as a botanical garden with informational placards and then turns into a nice walk along the marsh with plenty of ducks around for kids to enjoy. The only downside is that it is not a loop trail unless you want to walk all the way to the Pali Hwy and then up a street and walk back on a residential street. The whole trail will take about 2 hrs if you have a steady pace. We were there for only about an hour, which includes lunch at the one picnic table available.

“nice walk along the dam”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed January 23, 2013

If the weather is great (not too hot, maybe some misty rain), you can walk along the dam that separates Kailua from the Kawai Nui Marsh and see lots of different birds, many endangered. Today we saw stilts, herons, plovers, moor hens, bulbuls, Brazilian cardinals, and lots of ducks.

“It's new”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed November 16, 2012

Kawai Nui Marsh is something new. Lots of ducks, birds, and greenery. As one who grew up here I can say that I thought this was something different when I first saw it. You don't see this everywhere.

It can get hot, so a bottle of water is advised. Also something that can provide you with shade. The morning time and an hour or two before sunset is the best time to visit. It provides great lighting for photos. There are also a lot of people who exercise on the wall that sits in between.

Hope you like the view (:

“Great place for a casual walk”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed April 23, 2012

A local volunteer civic group has done a fantastic job in restoring and preserving this historic marshland. There is a lovely park area to relax and picnic landscaped with native plants and a great walkway to observe native flora and fauna.

“Beautiful, peaceful place to walk.”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed April 3, 2012

I walk at Kawai Nui quite often and just love it. It is quiet and peaceful and away from traffic. On any given day you can see 20-30 species of birds. A true gem.
