Description: Voted one of Oahu's best by Honolulu Star Advertiser four consecutive years, BANZAI Sushi Bar is truly one of Haleiwa's best kept secrets. Tucked away in a back corner of the North Shore Marketplace, casual fine dinning, outdoor covered seating with Japanese-style seating on Zabuton pillows or conventional tables, diners relax all while watching surf videos and enjoy live local musicians on the weekend. BANZAI uses local organic produce when ever possible and has their very own Hawaiian fish buyer who presents himself on a daily basis at the worlds largest Tuna fish auction here in Honolulu allowing them to serve the freshest fish almost immediately. With one of Hawaii's best Sake selections, any sushi lover and sake connoisseur will be in pure nirvana. Dont miss BANZAI Sushi Bar on your next visit to Oahu's North Shore in Historic Haleiwa Town.

“Well worth a visit”

Excellent sushi and sashimi, ask the chef what's the best, i had Tasmanian salmon that was superb. The tuna was also good, but a little pricey. The tempura not so good. Friendly service and a nice setting adds to the charm of the place. Suspect it would get busy over the North Shore peak winter season.

“A Welcome Surprise”
Reviewed June 9, 2014

On the weekends, we love to take a nice drive to the country and stop over at the Haleiwa Marketplace.
For years, I had been skeptical about trying this restaurant because I thought that this might be a "tourist trap" w/ steep prices and mediocre food. I was definitely wrong.
The fish is fresh. The sushi rolls are heavenly - my husband is a lemon drop roll addict. The tempura is light and crispy.
I am a HUGE fan of the Chirashi bowl w/ thick, fresh slices of sashimi - 3 different types of fish, shrimp and scallops over a warm bowl of seasoned rice.
The assorted tempura is quite generous w/ several pieces of shrimp tempura and vegetables (which can include asparagus).
The prices are affordable for Japanese restaurant standards. The difference is that the fish is extremely fresh and the portions are quite substantial.
The staff is friendly. The atmosphere is casual - just as it should be on a lazy weekend.
Need I say more?? Sit back and enjoy the food and cocktails on the open patio.

“Hot”
Reviewed May 30, 2014 via mobile

Once you walk up the steps you realize that you will be sitting outside on the deck. It may be cooler to eat here at night. The server was quick to serve glasses of water. That was appreciated. We ordered 3 rolls. The Hawaiian, spicy Tuna, and Philadelphia roll. The fish was fresh and the spicy mayo was good. Cost for 3 rolls was $33. I would eat here again on our next visit to the North Shore.

“creative sushi to a perfect rice quality combination”
Reviewed May 9, 2014

Since we had a small celebration (100 days of traveling) we decided to go to Banzai restaurant. We already had taken lunch to go but now we wanted to sit in.

The crew was very gentle and professional, the food we got was amazing in its originality and quality! The sushi you get here is not the plain fresh fish and rice but the chefs added loads of creativity to is. For example the try the Volcano, simply delicious! We were advised to take a very smooth Sake in order to perfection the meal. All together it made it to be a very special occasion for us, absolutely fitting our small celebration.

We would definitely go back and advise it to fellow travelers to go there as well

Note: you can't compare Banzai to the Original Japanese qweay of presenting sushi, however in price, quallity and originality is was worth the 5 star rating.

“Great food, service and cocktails.”
Reviewed April 27, 2014

Atmosphere of this place is awesome tables on the covered deck, or more Japanese style cushions on the floor. Old surf movie playing on the screen in the background, super friendly and efficient staff. Rolls were innovative, flavourful and fresh. Loved the raspberry saketini and there cold sake selection.
