“Stopped there to watch surfers and waves”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed May 28, 2014

and were not disappointed. Big waves, lots of big waves, and surfers, lots of surfers. We spent an hour sitting up on the hill watching wave after wave come in, some really big ones so there was a lot of activity going on. Fun to watch, would not want to swim against those waves however. Some were still well over 8 feet tall when they hit the shore, at least that's what it looked like from our vantage point. A great place to spend the afternoon watching the young and the young at heart.

“WAVES”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed April 26, 2014

Wow, the surf was really up when we stopped by. LOTS of surfers out there and a few very brave, experienced swimmers. The life guards were making regular announcements that it was not safe for anyone without a lot of experience to be out in it!!

“The Surfers Capital”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed April 17, 2014

One of the main tourist spots along the way as you tour Oahu.Aside from watching the surfers we were fortunate to be there when two whales appeared in the surf. The waves can be rough for swimming but there are spots where water pools and kids can play.Restrooms,BBQ grills, showers to rise off your feet can be found. The beach has a tree line of shade. Many tour buses can be seen stopping here throughout the day.Should want to picnic there are stores nearby for supplies.

“Surfer watching, bathrooms, lively scene”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed April 8, 2014

This is a quintessential Hawaii beach with a lot to recommend it, including a "captured" water area on the beach (from high tide --prefect for the little ones), bathrooms, a lifeguard station, zillions of surfers in the water and zillions of people on the beach watching the surfers. Directly across the road from the elementary school (nice Saturday market in parking lot). Parking is an issue since everyone is here and the parking lot is small. Parked cars up and down both sides of the road.

If you want a good view but not the crowd, hike up the trail which takes off of the left side of the school parking lot (facing the school). The short, steep hike up (15 minutes) leads to a couple of places where the beach is in view. While we were there, we saw surfers and whales.
