Love, love, love Sunset Beach! We were never there to swim - there were always Red flags warning of strong current and rip tides, but watching the surfers - what a show! From a spectator point of view, watching an athlete of that caliber master a 20 foot wave is fascinating and dangerously beautiful.
Sunsets are near perfection as well. For swimming and snorkeling, especially in rough waves, head to Haleiwa or Turtle Bay's bathtub, but when the waves are running - this is the place to be.

The beach was beautiful, as all the beaches on the island are. We went there to go body boarding, which was ok. It would have been better if the waves were a little bigger. The water was very clear and lots of kids and families out there.

Worth the drive to the North Shore. Ridiculously beautiful. We spent a lovely afternoon lolling on the beach, watching the surfers and wondering where Jack Johnson lives. Ha! Just joking on the last part, but no wonder such a beautiful peaceful place produced such a fine individual. Loved our afternoon there.

Not a lot of parking but if you can find a space, this is a nice beach to spend a few hours. Visited in March when the waves were big, so no swimming. The surfers and boogie boarders were very entertaining to watch while we laid out.

I love this stretch of beach on the North Shore, just be careful during the winter months. Also keep in mind there is little parking available and you will probably have to parallel park along the road. There are several beaches that comprise "sunset" just like several beaches make up "waikiki", so you do not have to be on sunset proper to enjoy the beach. Travel down the road another mile and you will find more parking.
