If you're looking for a beautiful relaxing beach (or a surf beach for that matter) with no hotels and not too many people... then this beach on the North Short of Oahu fits the bill. The water is a magnificent blue. The beach slopes gently into the ocean here and then drops off. The sand is a gorgeous reddish color. It feels a little more coarse than the powdery white sand of Waikiki but it's very gentle on your feet. I actually liked it better and it didn't have any sharp shells in it. We were here in September; so the water was cool upon first entry...but it only took a minute to be fully acclimated to it. The most challenging thing might be finding a place to park. We went on a weekday and were able to park right on the beach. There is a volcanic rock reef to the north that separates this beach from Waimea Beach Park. According to a local the volcanic rocks are very sharp... so you'll want some water shoes if you decide to venture out there. A very popular spot for snorkelers too. A great place to relax, cool off and people watch. This beautiful, tiny beach was the highlight of our trip.

DrIving the hwy alOng the north west side of Oahu we were lOoking for a spot to set our selves down. We wanted safe swimming, snorkeling and a soft sandy beach. We found it here!
It also offered a lOng beautiful walk of sand and dunes to the south and loads of coral (volcanic rock) toward the north.
Our choices to stop here was a good one. Will return again during my visit.

We traveled from our hotel at Waikiki Beach to the North Shore specifically to see the sunset on Sunset Beach. We were not disappointed. There was parking available right at the beach. On a very uncrowded beach, we played in the sand, swam in the ocean, watched the surfers and then watched the gorgeous sunset. It was stunning!

Lovely beach, not as nice as waimea but nearly. Amazing crystal blue/turquoise water, just watch as drops off quickly, unable to stand after about 10 metres. Flat as it is summer, and difficult to imagine how the waves can be so big in the winter but they are! Facilities are across the main road, far from ideal. But even worse is the poor upkeep and they are dire. This seems to be the case in the majority of restrooms we have had to use during our trip, what a pity

This is a great place for relaxing and enjoying the natural beauty of Oahu. It is also fun to watch surfers riding the waves. Can't beat sunset views. Never gets too crowded. This place is definitely worth a long drive from Honolulu.
