If you're looking for a beautiful relaxing beach (or a surf beach for that matter) with no hotels and not too many people... then this beach on the North Short of Oahu fits the bill. The water is a magnificent blue. The beach slopes gently into the ocean here and then drops off. The sand is a gorgeous reddish color. It feels a little more coarse than the powdery white sand of Waikiki but it's very gentle on your feet. I actually liked it better and it didn't have any sharp shells in it. We were here in September; so the water was cool upon first entry...but it only took a minute to be fully acclimated to it. The most challenging thing might be finding a place to park. We went on a weekday and were able to park right on the beach. There is a volcanic rock reef to the north that separates this beach from Waimea Beach Park. According to a local the volcanic rocks are very sharp... so you'll want some water shoes if you decide to venture out there. A very popular spot for snorkelers too. A great place to relax, cool off and people watch. This beautiful, tiny beach was the highlight of our trip.
