Cottage 5A is a great location. Beautiful sunsets, lovely beaches, interesting walks through the red dirt paths, and great breezes. Very nice lanai with comfortable furniture.
The cottage had a fabulous view of the ocean-- nothing in the way. We came for a real rest and the desire to do nothing for a few days-- and it was perfect for that.
That said, much of the resort is in disrepair, some buildings even abandoned. So it's a bit like staying in a ghost town. This unit is good, though: clean and comfortable. We hope it can stay that way!
We vacationed there in the summer and had the most relaxing vacation in all our trips to Hawaii. The cottage was spacious for two (king size bed, spacious kitchen with all necessary supplies, plenty of closet space). The cottage had internet and wifi which provided a choice to stay connected with outside world or stay off the grid. We spent a lot of time on the lanai watching palm trees sway in the wind, watching the beautiful sunsets that disappeared behind Oahu, and just relaxing. We enjoyed sunning at Kepuhi beach and hiked to the other nearby beaches. Since we didn't have a car, we used the local MEO bus (2 trips daily but no weekend trips so plan accordingly) to go shopping at Kaunakakai. We didn't need to contact Gene much during our stay but found him quick to respond to any inquiries. All said we really enjoyed getting away to Molokai. We hope to return again soon.
The pictures do not lie; this cottage has un-obstructed views of the waves crashing against the shore. Beautiful to wake up to with a cup of coffee. Beautiful to sit on the patio with a glass of wine and watch the sunset. The whole time we were there, we didn't see more than 10 people; had the beaches to ourselves - completely!! And the cottage? Was equipped with absolutely every convenience you need. All kitchen equipment, coffee pot and filters, books, music, even a jar of peanut butter left by another renter. Washer/dryer work like a charm, and the water pressure in the shower? I want to go back just for that! GO!! Unwind. We will be back!!
Next to some of the best beaches on the island. Grocery store on property is really convenient. No regrets staying at this rental.
We stayed at Unit 5A, the last week in April. This was our first visit to Molokai. We loved this beautiful place. We ate breakfast on the patio every morning and enjoyed cocktails and dinner just in time for sunset. The condo was spotless and the kitchen is well stocked for most anything you want to cook. It even has a slow cooker and a decent set of knives. The bathroom is good size and threre are plenty of beach towels. There is also a little store near the pool area that sells various items, candy, souvenirs, snacks, etc, in case you need something quick. We really enjoyed the cottage as our home base. The view from the patio is amazing. The grounds are clean and well maintained. We have been to all of the Islands and Molokai is our favorite. We will definitely come back. My only complaint is that we didn't stay longer.
Our two weeks at Cottage 5A was immensely relaxing and exactly what we need for our winter escape. The cottage is nothing fancy but extremely comfortable and you'll find everything you need from a full kitchen, washer, dryer, big fridge/freezer, plenty of bath towels, beach towels, beach chairs, comfy lanai furniture and so much more. We never turned on the TV but were able to stream our music with Gene's stereo set up and fast internet service. There is a Mr. Coffee, coffee maker so if that is good with you then you'll be happy.
In our opinion the cottage location is in the best spot of any of the other rentals in Kepuhi Resort. The cottage is a bit separated from the other cottages and on a rise so we had stunning views of the ocean, evening sunsets and the lights of Oahu. We were lucky enough not to have anyone in the adjoining unit so it felt very private. All you hear are the sounds of the waves on the beach and the lovely trade winds in the coconut trees...We slept so well during our stay!
The grounds are Kephui Resort are well maintained considering the history of the whole place. It is a very quite place with the average age of folks probably over 60 but we found the peaceful, friendly atmosphere a great escape from the rat race of life. Occasionally the BBQ grills can get a bit busy but the wait isn't too long. The pool while not luxurious is a nice place to lounge in the sun, take a dip to cool off and listen to the waves crashing below. The surrounding beaches are really what we loved about the place. Just a 10-15 minute stroll in either direction gets you to lovely white sand beaches...Often we were the only ones on the beach!
My husband rented a bike from Molokai Bikes and would take off on morning rides while I would go for a run. The roads and trails a numerous so lots of adventuring to be had by those that like that sort of thing. The surf was a bit above our skill level so we weren't able to partake in that pastime. However, we did see folks surfing and SUP'ing several times.
We will definitely return to Gene's cottage and we recommend it to any folks who want to get away from it all, relax and slow down.
