“Loved the French bread!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed April 23, 2012 via mobile

We visited this bakery 3 times during our week long stay in Molokai. To those who complain it is old and tired and needs a makeover I say "you are on the wrong island!". Yeah the teenager behind the counter wasn't thrilled to be there but we loved the fresh French bread. One night we got there when they were closing. The family was seated around a table in front chatting and as soon as they saw us trying the door one of them sprang up to open it and warmly welcomed us to come in and buy our loaf. We picked up hot bread another night and asked the local kids in line what their favorite toppings were...cinnamon and sugar with butter they said in unison. Great recommendation!

“Baked goods and local breakfast”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed April 20, 2012

While on vacation, we ate breakfast here 2x and picked up breakfast treats to go for a total of 4 meals in 7 days.

The breakfasts are pretty simple but good. Many locals eat here, so if you are looking for Molokai, this is the place. The bread is very 'white' so if you are a healthy eater, this is not for you. The food is also pretty greasy, which caused me some issues. The sweets are amazingly dense and sweet, but taste pretty good. I had to give up my healthy eating rules, if I was going to go with the flow of the location.

The condition of the building was a bit of a shock when we entered. It looks as if nothing has been done in many many years. This is not the place to make a bathroom stop, it was scary, but clean. This is not the kind of eatery where I was going to hang out and have a nice breakfast with the hubby on vacation: We ate, we left.

The prices are fair, and match the food and location.

“Crisp, Fresh Macadamia Nut Cookies and Good Cinnamon Rolls”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed April 11, 2012

This little bakery on the main street in Kaunakakai has good, fresh treats. My personal favorite was their macadamia nut cookies--crisp and fresh. They aren't cheap at $8.00 for what looked like to be a dozen, but well worth having in your condo to wake up, grab a cookie and some coffee, and hit the lanai for the morning sun. The cinnamon rolls were delicious too and very large--they also go great with coffee. The two times we visited the bakery the counter person was friendly and there was no wait. We did not eat inside so cannot speak to any further service.

“Hot Bread Run at night is a must do!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed April 4, 2012

I agree with others that the actual bakery itself is old and run-down.
But please treat yourself to the hot bread run. They now post a sign with the starting time.
So after 8pm make your way down Hotel Lane (no idea where that name came from!)
and then look for the 'Moloka'i Hot Bread' sign (can't miss it).
This is where it gets a bit spooky the first time. You turn left and walk into this tunnel like walkway - which might or might not have any lights in it at the moment. But you can see the wall at the end of the tunnel and you are at their back door.
The have a huge wall with huge painted flowers. And there is a menu beside the door with the night's selections. Not only do they have the bread, you can buy anything else that might be baking at the moment.
So the bread is now $6.75 a loaf for two toppings (and they really appreciate exact change). We had butter/cinnamon and then cream cheese/cinnamon. It's a fairly thin layer of goodies, but the flavor is great. Give your order at the half-window and you get your loaf of hot bread in a plastic bag.
Excellent right there when it's hot. Still excellent the next morning in the microwave.

“Grumpy help and not all that special”
2 of 5 bubbles Reviewed April 1, 2012

The woman behind the counts was totally indifferent to us. I had read that this was a great place to get bread, but the bread was marginal at best. Add in surely help and I wonder what the attraction is.
