“10 o'clock is silent hour!”
Reviewed May 10, 2014

the hostel has a good location. it is right in the middle of maui but in the surrounding are of the hostel is not much happening. you either need a car or walk to the bus stations. it is placed well in the middle of the island.
the staff was helpful at the check in but at night time it was a bit ridiculous the way people got treated. felt like being back in kindergarten! you are not allowed to talk in the common area after 10 p.m.! (not even whispering!) one of the hostel guests got in trouble for skyping back home. seriously?!?
the 8-bed-doorms are really tight and too full. no space for your luggage and 8 people sleeping in one room without a window doesn't help.
if you are looking for a place just to spend the night, this is a good place to go but if you are looking for a bit more social experience i would stay somewhere else.

Dear Christian, we're sorry you didn't understand about quiet hours - not SILENT hours. We explain this at check-in to each guest. You may of course still talk, but we ask that you do so quietly as others are trying to sleep. Often people may not realize they are being loud or disruptive. We do our best to keep ALL our guests happy. The men's dorm has both a window and air conditioning as well as exhaust ventilation...and some folks travel with a lot of stuff and don't always organize too well. Anyway, thanks for staying with us...happy trails!

really great hostel run by great peeps. The only issue I encountered was some inconsiderate folks making lots of noise in the middle of the night (I'm talking 2am - past the hour where you could even expect the hostel managers to be awake to enforce the noise policy). They did quiet down after I got up and asked them to - a sign that the policy was clear to them. Of course, you will find people like this anywhere and it has nothing to do with the quality of the hostel itself, which was excellent. But be prepared to tell folks when they are disrupting your sleep... and if you are likely to be the person disrupting sleep then this is not the place.

Other than that, great location, great Thai restaurant right next to it, very comfortable and clean, kitchen and bathrooms were nice, balcony is nice, and overall the people staying there were awesome. They also gave me a good deal on a private room - less than half the price of a hotel. I would go back for sure.

Excellent hostel!!!! It was my first experience in an hostel and it was just amasing! We stayed 5 nights in the delux room (having air conditionning ans locked door). There were free pancakes for breakfast but also coffee and tea! Really helpful when you arrived in the late night and haven't time for grocery before check-in. Staff are really helpful and they offer a shuttle for/from the airport and beach 4/day!
Also, there is a quiet hours and people are respecful. 4 bathrooms with shower. I never waited more than 5 minutes to use it. You can also rent a snuggle sets and a surf! And there is a luggage storage if you want to put your stuff in a locked room. Also, they agreed to carried on our luggages after check out bcause our flight was in late nite.
I really recommend this place!

Beware, if you are looking for a hostel that is near any beach then this is not the hostel for you! It is great for a night before the Road to Hana or Iao Valley/Needle but not for sand and sun. Try Tiki Hale or Lahaina's Last Resort hostels in Lahaina for beach time and town access! Maholo

Dear Sir, I am sorry you didn't enjoy your experience at our hostel and felt that our service and facility wasn't up to your expectations. The staff work very hard to help our guests enjoy their Maui experience and regret that you felt otherwise.
Further, we do not attempt to misrepresent the location of our facility. As stated on our web page:
' We are centrally located, making it easy for you to explore the entire island, with many popular destinations easily accessible from our historic building in downtown Wailuku'. There are also Map links of the hostel on our web page.
Thank you for your criticism and taking the time to write. We'll continue our effort to maintain our reputation as Maui's highest rated hostel....Aloha!

I stayed alone 3 nights in the deluxe room (having air conditioning) in this hostel. Compared with single rooms in 2 other hostels in Waikiki on oahu, 1 other in Wailuku on Maui, 1 other in Hilo on Big Island, I enjoyed this the most.
The room is located to the balcony and street. The rules for quiet time in the hostel and on the balcony are strict. The street is quiet during night. Cooling down the room ones before sleeping, keeps the room cool until morning.
The shared bathrooms (4) are big and comfortable. no queueing experienced.
The heart of the hostel is the open couch and kitchen area. You can get your sandwich from the fridge during night to go for your early hike on the vulcanoe to see sunrise. Or having good talks through the day. free pancakes.
The office is facing the couch area. staff is working in shifts, which means that you always have a contact for your needs. A tour at checkin will be given to everyone, which is useful and funny.
The staff is living in the hostel, which means that they are keeping an eye on things, that everything is running well. One of the staff is german, which gives an extra homefeeling point to german natives.
Other visitors I've met were coming from US and Germany.
Parking your rental car is no problem.
People, who are looking for a base for their trips on Maui with the extra clean and comfortable homefeeling are perfectly located in this place.

Room Tip: The deluxe room is located to the balcony and street. The rules for quiet time in the hostel and on...
