“Nice hostel!”
Reviewed March 16, 2013 via mobile

It's a nice hostel. Friendly staff and a good lication to explore the island. We stayed in a private room with shared bathroom and kitchen. Everything was clean. Free parking across the street is ok. We would definitely stay here again.

Been here before, made the friends, loved it and came back again to visit the friends. This place is super friendly, clean and well located. I will always make this my home base on Maui and drive all over the island and return here for a quiet night. Some of the guests here take the bus around. I find grabbing a cheap rental car from Hotwire a great investment and there is plenty of parking across the street in the center "12 hour" parking. The staff will tell you about it during their run down welcome street. Mahalo Northshore!

This was a well run place to stay. I had a small private room facing the street, and there was some traffic noise, but I'm a pretty sound sleeper so that didn't bother me much, but I'd recommend bringing ear plugs or using headphones. What bothered me more was the hallway light which was on all night and came in through the window in my room. The staff was able to hang a sheet on the window for me, and while it didn't totally block out the light, it helped a great deal.

The common areas were always kept clean, as were the bathrooms. There were a couple of times that all the bathrooms were full in the mornings and the afternoon/evenings when I had to wait, but the wait was not long.

The Internet connection was very fast and reliable.

You are not in the tourist/beach part of Maui at this location, so be prepared to travel to do any activites. I had a rental car, and there was parking at the public lot across the street, except on Friday (the first one of the month), when there is a street festival and parking is very hard to find.

This was a very quiet place (posted quiet hours are 10-8) , with the exception of one night. There was a Santana concert in town, and it seemed to one that one of the guests had brought back a few concert go-ers to the hostel (which is supposedly not allowed as only registered guests are permitted inside) and there was some loud conversation around midnight. There were also a couple of people that had crashed on the couches in the living room area. I pretty sure that they were not guests, and I know at least one of them lived in Hana on Maui and I thought you had to be an off-islander to stay there. So, despite the supposed large number of security cameras, and the staff living on site, nothing was done about this. Had this happened on the first night I was staying there I would have been unconfortable staying for more nights, but I already knew how things were generally run at the time this happened, and I figured it was a one time issue.

Room Tip: Rooms in the front get quite a bit of traffic noise.

Dear Sunnyvale
We are happy that you enjoyed your visit with us. We do our best to enforce quiet hours and rely on our guests to cooperate as well. Unfortunately that is not always the case. We did evict those visitors, likely after you were already asleep. We are serious about the security and comfort of our guests and work hard to enforce our rules while providing our guests with the best value on Maui. Thank you for your feedback and we hope you visit again
A hui hoa!

Quiet little town . . . quick drive to the airport, to Paia, and to the sunny west side.
Clean, mellow, pancakes and coffee each morning . . . nice.
We rented snorkel equipment for just $5 and also got free parking for our rental car.
The clientele were not the younger partying crowd, but they were still from all over the world, so there seemed to be a larger variety of stories to hear.

We stayed there for one night. I appreciated clear explanation of the rules of the house and warm welcome by the front office. We opted for private room with shared bathroom. Room was fine however I didn't realy enjoy the bed (too soft), the bathrooms (4 are available) were spacious and clean. In the morning there is tea and coffee, and pancakes! There is a wide selection of frozen or instant food and drinks sold directly at the front office. In the surrounding area you can find stores, fast food and restaurants. Parking is OK and free of charge in front of the house. This hotel is situated in the area of Wailuku where the locals live so you feel "local" :) The location is good to explore nortshore in both east and west direction.

I've stayed in a number of hostels around US and Europe, and this one rates at top. Well managed, friendly, clean. Access to discounted adventures. Close to bus line for easy access to island. Free pancakes a plus ;)
