This area is very lush and beautiful. It is a short circular hike that is easy for most people. It doesnt take long to do the entire trip. When we went you had to stay on the path, but there looked like there was some off path hiking you could do. There is a $5 dollar non resident parking fee.

It's a good place to visit if you have a half day and don't know what to do especially if it's raining. The stream was beautiful. Enjoy those few steps up to the top..not many at all.

This is one of my absolute favorite spots, not just on Maui, but on all of the hawaiian islands...It is a gorgeous valley with two freshwater streams flowing through hundred foot cliffs of green. The state park is nice with concrete trails and portapotties but the real adventure begins when you step off of the pavement and hike on some of the ancient trails that zigzag through the valley. It would be very hard to get lost at Iao Valley since the streams flow all year 'round. Just head downstream and you will end up at the parking lot or worst case a little farther down. Flash flooding does occur so you want to be aware of what the weather is doing. Bring a swimsuit and take a dip. It is extremely refreshing.....the best way is to find a deep enough pool and sit in it and dunk your head completely underwater. If you have hiked far enough out of sight, pop your head up you will be in ancient hawaii....I call it a hawaiian baptism...... There is an awesome trail that goes beyond the "highest point," just jump the guardrail and keep heading up.....It is worth it.......

Iao Valley has some gorgeous views and is definitely worth a visit. It is easy to find, and the only cost is parking, which is $5 for non-residents. The short hike to the viewing area of the Iao Needle is pretty easy, with views of lush, green mountains and rocky, clear streams. There are other trails to explore as well. Rain is always a possibility, so you may want to bring some rain gear and bug spray, just in case.

We went on Saturday after the Swap Meet, and enjoyed the short time we were there. You have to climb a LOT of stairs to get to the top, but the views are worth it! Some areas had signs that stated the areas were closed, and not to go beyond the signs. It would have been nice to be able to go on those walking trails for more views. Also, be aware that there are only Port a Johns available as restrooms!
