“A beautiful spot but not a top attraction”

If you have time on a first trip or are back for a 2nd or 3rd time definitely go to the Iao Needle. It and the Iao Valley are remains of an old volcano. It's a very lush area. There is a tall distant waterfall (might be dry in summer?) to the left and a great view back to the ocean looking down the valley. It is a short walk with many steps up to the top view of the "Needle." There are some other attractions along the way but we didn't have time to stop. I think the grounds need maintenance pruning etc. The plants in a garden? area were messy and weary looking.

“Definitely worth the trip”

Iao Valley is a very easy access wonderful place to visit. It has natural beauty and a very interesting history.
If you don't want to go to the beach or to the pool each day, this place is a good alternative to the more laborious Road to Hanna or Haleakala.
My two teenagers really enjoyed the short hike and the sights.

“A stunning tropical valley”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed April 15, 2014

Iao Valley has two parks. The lower park has various buildings reflecting Hawaii's varied cultures as well as many picnic tables and easy access to the Iao River for those wanting to dip their bodies in for some cool comfort. The upper park has the Iao needle as well as short walks that are very scenic.

If you want to save the $5 dollar parking fee, park at the lower park and walk along the road to the upper park which is about a 1/2 mile round trip.

“Pleasant Diversion From The Beach Scene”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed April 14, 2014

Iao Valley was definitely worth a visit. It is very picturesque and definitely warrants spending some time walking on the paths. Climb the stairs for a beautiful view. The vegetation is lovely and the $5.00 parking fee is well worth it. Highly recommended.
